Media Release – Katy Gallagher MLA

ACT Chief Minister and Minister for Territory and Municipal Services, Katy Gallagher, today announced that Bonner and Forde residents will be offered free bus travel for one week on the new Route 55, which is being introduced as part of ACTION’s Network 12.

“To celebrate the introduction of the new Route 55 service into Bonner and Forde which connects with the Gungahlin Marketplace, ACTION will be offering free travel for residents of those suburbs for the first week of Network 12 which starts on Monday 28 May,” the Chief Minister said.

“This will give the residents the opportunity to experience the ease of catching buses and the range of benefits they provide.”

Commuters will receive a free transfer ticket to use on connecting routes within the next 90 minutes. If return trips are taken outside the 90 minute transfer period or do not begin on Route 55, a fare will need to be paid.

Network 12 provides a range of other improved services for residents of Gungahlin. These include

  • improved frequency on the Red Rapid express service from Gungahlin to Fyshwick (via City) to depart every 10 minutes during the morning peak servicing five additional stops
  • new services, Route 55 on weekdays and Route 955 on weekends, will connect Forde and Bonner to Gungahlin Marketplace
  • weekday and weekend bus services to Casey and Crace
  • redesign of Route 951 to travel via Flemington Road providing a direct link from Gungahlin Marketplace to the City on weekends

“A letterbox drop will be done this week to residents in Bonner and Forde which provides details of the free Route 55 travel offer from Monday 28 May 2012 to Friday 1 June 2012,” the Chief Minister concluded.
