The School Student Transport Scheme briefly operated during 2001. It provided for free school bus travel and required additional buses due to new school routes.
Reliability problems with earlier buses prompted the Department to have a look at the new Volvo B58 then being offered for the first time in Australia.
In November 2009, twenty ACTION buses were fitted with a moustache to help raise awareness of men’s health issues, specifically prostate cancer and depression.
In 1981 with the delivery of ZIB-585, Canberra moved closer to the European scene with the addition of Mercedes-Benz buses to the fleet.

Slow delivery of buses in the early 1970s led to the option of new bus suppliers. When tenders were called in 1974, MAN of Munich successfully tendered for 10 SL200 buses – and from there, 151 buses in the ACTION fleet.
Leyland National buses joined the Canberra fleet in 1974, as part of a major upgrade of the Canberra bus service.
