Hmmmm, don't like the part where it states that Majura Parkway is unlikely to get its funding. Majura Parkway is a must, NSW is getting its funding for the upgrade of roads such as the Pacific Highway and the Hume Highway, so why can we not get a duplication upgrade for a busy (And frankly terrible) road as well? Considering the amount of traffic on Majura Road year round, it should be first on the list for road upgrades in the ACT.

THE ACT can expect a modest increase in road funding in Tuesday's federal budget.

However, one of the ACT Government's big ticket items, the duplication of Majura Road, appears unlikely to get the nod.

The ACT Government promised last week $144million for the 11km dual carriageway which would connect the Federal and Monaro highways, contingent on the Commonwealth matching the funding.

The Sunday Canberra Times can reveal Treasurer Wayne Swan will announce on Tuesday $15.4million in new funding for ACT road infrastructure over the next financial year.

The Federal Government will also provide $26.8million to assist the ACT Government maintain and upgrade local roads and continue funding a $1million initiative to eliminate dangerous black spots on local roads.

Mr Swan said the 2011-12 budget continued the roll-out of the Government's record capital works program which was renewing and expanding the ACT's road infrastructure.

Mr Swan expects the completion of a number of projects this year, including the widening of the Monaro Highway from two to four lanes between Canberra Avenue and Newcastle Street in Fyshwick and the upgrading of the road network around the Canberra Airport precinct.

''Building better roads is not just about cutting commute times so people can spend more time with family, it's also about building up vital economic capacity and ensuring growth is sustainable,'' he said.

''Whether it's vital infrastructure investment, tackling climate change or key health and education reforms, the Gillard Government is taking on the tough long-term challenges.''

$1m isn't going to fix too many black spots.
