Er, not quite. Rest of this week with a trainer close by...just to be sure.  Came in handy when I was asked a few curly questions by various people walking up.

437...318 sth, 319 nth.  A couple of good ones to do solo.  BTW and FYI, 437 has the new radio system on board.  It works fine to hear messages from base but seems to have a fault in being able to call back.

So, I was lucky, a good week of newish MANs to round out the training.  I dare say the fun will really start on Monday as my first proper shift is earmarked for an Iris.

Take a book to read for when you're waiting for the towies to arrive.

Snorzac

Try to avoid anything above 305. If you can get it 304 is the best.

Kramden

Thanks for that MB.  I drove two Iris's while training, 313 and 311.  The former was shite (brakes!!), but the latter not too bad.

Fine thanks Buzz, I really enjoyed it...well, apart from being assigned an Iris!

Today was a different story, still enjoyable though.  I took 119 for the PM part of my split shift (in the absence of any 2s in the shed) but only made it through one run, #9 City to Campbell Pk.  Upon approach to the stop in front of the offices I got two warning lights: battery and temp.  After shutting down and lifting the lid it revealed thrown belts, all except one.  So it was onto base, a wait for the mechanic and no more runs for me today.  Aren't you glad you asked.

BTW, I had 310 for the AM part of the shift.

Snorzac

310 is the worst Iris in the fleet, I can't stand riding it, wouldn't want to even think about driving it...then again, not like you get a choice!

I saw you departing Belconnen on that 7 yesterday morning Kramden, that run was for the entire 'Temporary Bus Station' Network operated by a driver on this board in BUS 337, I used to get it from one end of Belconnen to the other almost every morning.

Yeah, gotta love an Iris bus Chris.  Reminds me of the time Peter Griffin (Family Guy) said to his daughter Meg - after farting in the car - "You gotta love the gas Meg, love the gas".  Class act.

Anyway I had 314 again this AM for my 7 and 8.  Maybe I'm just getting used to things but I found it not too bad in the brakes dept.  I did however, have to log it for a few minor issues, one being the left indicator buzzer comes on as one l-o-n-g noise.  The actual lights on the bus work fine, but it's annoying when you're boarding and setting down to have this thing blaring.  Took it up to Quick Fix.  No one home, so it was off to the brix.

I've now driven five of the 20?? Irises.  314 seems a good one.  Your thoughts on others...

Thoughts are avoid Irises whenever possible. If you have to take one, i try and stick with ones under 306. Obviously in the mornings you don't get a choice so its tough luck then.

This morning I had 316 which, like 314, seems fairly OK.  Mind you, I'm only doing light load runs with time to spare.  I took 841 for yesterday's PM and it was fine for an old war horse.

The Love Guru

314 has always been one of the OK ones. 313 has the cool LED tail lights, which i wish they'd fit to all the Irises.

304 is the best of them for the next few months, until it dies in the ass and they fix up another one.

Barry Drive

Most of the 840s are pretty good with 841 & 846 the better ones.

842 is really good, 840...well that's a different story.

I took 867 for the PM end of the yesterday's shift.  It went along well.  Call me old fashioned but I prefer Mk1s with manual destos...an extra reason to get out of the chair in between runs.  Obviously these two runs, 9s and a 58 are not too tight in between.

I spotted you as you were loading for your 58N yesterday, I don't know if you saw the gentleman in a fluro green vest (that was me) or the magpies that wanted a turf war then & there.

I knew the driver who had the shift with your 9 to the City & the 58 the Belconnen back in Network '09. I would assume that both runs are fairly quiet, especially the 58 from Gungahlin. I just hope you have never been stuck trying to get out of the ACT Hospice.
