Gawler line reopened last Saturday 31 March with the commissioning of the SA Rail Commission's upgraded Salisbury to Gawler Central portion of the line; trains have reverted to the pre-upgrade timetable.

Beyond Gawler, the line to the Barossa region is owned by Genessee and Wyoming Railroad. Concrete products were railed from the Barossa to Canberra in huge quantities in years gone by for major construction projects such as the High Court and National Gallery buildings.
