Had 491 for weekend detail...some interesting novel features besides the special notices about it being the 75th Custom diesel MAN bus for ACTION. For example, large red buzzer (bell) buttons for passengers with poor eyesight etc , re-located short-stop brake button as requested by driver representatives (further forward, similar position to CNG Scanias)...

Bus 400

That didn't happen to be on the Sunday did it Smitho? As I was just talking about 491 when we pulled behind it at Platform 2 at Cohen Street Bus Station.

Looks like you're in some kind of 'bus heaven' over there.  Reminds me of when I was last in Perth (2006) I took a wrong turn and ended up driving our hire car through the City Bus Port.  Epic navigation fail on my part.  But it was grand to be surrounded by so many green and silver buses.

See if you have time for a northbound train ride to Joondalup.  Love how that train runs right next to the Mitchell freeway at street level.  It's an unusual experience driving along and looking to your side only to see the train wheels almost at eye level.

Enjoy your journey in a fantastic part of the world.  Would live there if it wasn't so far away.

smitho

While you're in the West, try and take a ride on the 'Australind' trains (Bunbury line)  if you can - they are an early version of the IC3 cars which NSW Countrylink calls the Xplorers and are a derivative of a type of Danish Diesel Multiple Unit.

Bus 400

Kramden-I'll differently take the Joindalup line as I plan to go to the most northern TransPerth terminus. Also having caught the old Rockingham/Mandurah buses to the City & being stuck with the cars. It is also fun to fly down the freeway reserve at 130k's, while cars crawl in peak hour.

Smitho-I'm tempted to head to Bunbury by train, but we'll see how things pan out.
