General Discussion / MyWay+ : committee inquiry
Last post by Barry Drive - January 07, 2025, 10:15:53 AM
Not long after the implementation of MyWay+, the ACT Legislative Assembly passed this motion to refer the project to a Standing Committee:

(1) this Assembly notes that:
 (a) the $64 million MyWay+ system was intended to be fully functional at the time of its launch on Wednesday, 27 November 2024;
 (b) the system was not fully functional at launch;
 (c) pre-launch testing was clearly inadequate and having the launch at one of the busiest times of the year was an error;
 (d) the Government has already had to launch an audit of potential overcharging on the fourth day of operation; and
 (e) the failed launch has created uncertainty and stress amongst Canberrans who rely on public transport;

(2) this Assembly requests that the Standing Committee on Environment, Planning, Transport and City Services inquire into and report on the procurement and delivery of MyWay+, including:
 (a) the initial, failed procurement of a MyWay replacement;
 (b) the decision to procure a bespoke product;
 (c) the capabilities and business case for MyWay+;
 (d) impacts and potential impacts on public transport confidence and usage;
 (e) the development and delivery of the MyWay+ system, including the adequacy of testing and consultation;
 (f) consideration of opportunities to improve the quality and transparency of public procurement processes in the ACT;
 (g) the sufficiency and quality of public communications before, during and after the launch of MyWay+;
 (h) the timing of the MyWay+ launch; and
 (i) an assessment of MyWay+ data security and any implications for users; and

(3) this Assembly requests that, should the Committee on Environment, Planning, Transport and City Services agree to inquire into the matter, the Committee report by the last sitting day of June 2025.

Not sure whether Committee hearings get published in Hansard, but the final report should be publicly available.

(While I agree some things needed to be done better, I disagree with the "failed launch" description.)

In 2024;
-I drove 47805.9km
-Operated 1849 in service trips
-Drove a total of 379 buses
-Crossed Lake Burley Griffin (either via Commonwealth Ave or Kings Ave) 841 times
-Carried 15 wheelchairs and 206 bikes
-Had 31 full standing loads
-Ran more than 10min late 53 times
-Went the wrong way 11 times
-Defected 98 of the 379 buses, broke down 26 times and had 1 bus towed.

My most driven bus for 2024 was  MAN 18.310 CNG BUS374 which I drove 9 times for 1783.7km. There was three other buses which I surpassed 1000km in for the year, all Yutong E12, BUS806, 811 and 809

My most driven bus type by km was the Yutong E12 which I drove 71 times for 10507km. The most driven bus type by times driven was the Scania K360UA/CB80 which I drove 78 times for 8322.2km.

In 2024 I operated the R4 a total of 184 times, the R5, 80 and 81 were also all operated more than 100 times . I completed every other route service in the network at least once throughout 2024 with the exception of the route 22, 180,181 and 182. I operated 88 dedicated school services and did 8 charters.

-First bus of the year was 498 on 1/1/24
-Last bus of the year was 677 on 31/12/24
-Most broken down in bus was a tie between 723 and 751 (2 each)
-Most defected bus for the year 523 (4 times)

General Discussion / 2025 - public transport expect...
Last post by Barry Drive - January 01, 2025, 03:23:38 PM
Now becoming a yearly tradition - this is a list of the known Public Transport expectations for 2025 (as also published on Facebook):

➡️ fares to rise by 3% in January
➡️ Woden Depot to commence operation
➡️ Tuggeranong Depot electrical upgrades
➡️ 30 more Yutong E12 🔋 🚍 to be delivered (replacing CNG buses and Irisbuses)
➡️ Light Rail Stage 2A construction to commence in February
➡️ MyWay+ improvements including:
  ⏩️ additional retail agents
  ⏩ fully operational real-time tracking (including apps and Google Transit)
  ⏩️ Interchange display screens
  ⏩ Ticket Vending / Top-up Machines
  ⏩ onboard bus stop announcements
  ⏩️ "master" MyWay+ accounts
➡️ Legislative Assembly enquiry into MyWay+ procurement and implementation
➡️ Woden Interchange and CIT construction complete
➡️ safety upgrades at (unknown) bus interchanges
➡️ Sunday timetable updated to hourly services before 6pm

All information comes from ACT Budget, Hansard, media releases and Built for CBR website.

I've not included the undelivered 13 Scania K320UBs as there has been no word about their fate - the 2025 Budget may shed some light if there's a sharp reduction in the outlays, assuming there isn't a question or statement given in the ACT Assembly beforehand.

The 30 Yutongs is an estimate - exact figures may be known later. Same goes for which buses will be withdrawn - not enough information to be definite, other than 15 CNG Scania by 30 June (which may not be accurate anyway).

There might also be a tender issued this year for the next batch of electric buses.

Nowhere near as detailed as Sylvans, but here is my 2024 bus summary (Note: this only goes back to April, since that's when I started tracking the buses I had ridden) Since April, I've had 119 bus trips, which is more than I thought. It is also worth noting that nearly all my travels are enthusiast related.

Since April I have ridden (excluding the Renault farewell tour)
20x MAN 18.320
18x Scania K320UB Custom CB80
16x Scania K320UB Bustech VST
12x Scania L94UB
8x Scania K320UB Volgren Optimus
6x Scania K320UB 14.5m
6x Irisbus Agoraline
4x Scania K360UA Custom CB80
3x Renault PR100.2
3x Yutong E12
3x MAN 18.310 CNG
1x Custom Denning Element 2
1x Scania K360UA Volgren Optimus
1x Mercedes 0405NH
1x Hino Poncho

Top buses ridden since April

3x 585
2x 319, 390, 440, 660, 378, 478, 306, 353, 462, 957

Bold indicates buses I rode more than once on different trips

Top 5 routes since April

1st - 26 (27 rides)
2nd - 23 (22 rides)
3rd - 25 (14 rides)
4th - R8 (11 rides)
5th - R4 (9 rides)

More statistics from my travels

- I rode the most buses on the 18th of July (9 buses)
- Shortest trips: 346 and 356 (both 26, 2 stops)
- Overall ride of the year: 360 (26)

I definitely had a couple more chances to ride more Bustechs, which I should have taken looking back. Hopefully next year I can achieve at least 150 bus trips, if not 200.

746 total bus trips this year. Failed a ton of goals but whatever, it's impossible to do everything with how much the fleet constantly changes. To my own surprise I think I could've been stretching that number close to 1000 had I not had so many lifts to/from choir activities or been sick the number of times I was. My 10 years ago self would've been pretty jealous of this accomplishment, not having to kill myself in December to fill up the last 200 rides each year for my 1000-buses-each-year-for-10-years shtick.

Over 220 days this year I caught:
24x Irisbuses (13/19)*
56x CNG Scanias (33/54)*
15x CNG MAN (7/16)
101x Euro 5 (62/89)
165x Euro 6 (68/82)
29x Steertag (16/26)
44x Artics (24/33)
165x Bustech (67/82)*
43x Volgren (includes non TC Volgrens) (21/23)*
24x ∀rtics (9/11)
27x Renault's (717, 930, 933, 950, 960, 962, 979, 980, 982) (9/20)*
48x Electric (18/37)*
5x Others

*According to ACTION, TC and CDC fleet numbers listed in the log book between Dec 23 2023 and Dec 28 2024. Too many fleet changes/additions/removals to care about being picky/precise.

486x Trips with scooter (not including any of the following)
20x Long-distance/LRV-avoidance/time-wasting trips
20x Bushops
82x Special circumstances (not including any of the above)
8x Wheelchair ramp uses

First and Last bus of the year must be something old or high on the priority list
First - failed, got a Bustech
Last - semi-failed, got a Euro 5. Didn't have much choice given it was a Saturday
500th bus of the year was 980.

Unregistered trips due to:
MyWay not working - x4
MyWay+ Installation - x131
No Card - x36
No MyWay+ Reader - x2

Think I rode 3, maybe 4 lightrail, but don't give a **** about LRVs, so I didn't write down which ones.

Total time on buses hasn't been worked out yet, but it's probably somewhere over 9 days. 12 hours of which on Renault's and 8-ish on Irisbuses.

Top 5 buses caught:
806 x8
980 x7
687 x7
611 x7
617 x7

Top 5 routes:
R4 x274
R6 x130
71 x59
R5 x42
902 x34

Unusual route mentions for this year:
R8 x1
R9 x2
19 x1
26 x1
42 x2
45 x1
46 x1
47 x1
180 x2
830 x2
831 x5
834 x1

Top 3 longest days (approx. time on buses)
Nov 2 - 6hr 57m
Oct 8 - 3hr 38m
Mar 22 - 2hr 45m

General Discussion / Re: MyWay+ implementation
Last post by triumph - December 28, 2024, 12:41:48 PM
Quote from: triumph on December 11, 2024, 05:52:58 PMNo. But I did order one through my account about 2 weeks ago. Later that transaction history had disappeared. Later still the transaction and travel histories had again disappeared. BUT a linked MyWay+ card has appeared in my account, and today it arrived in the post. So it was pre-linked prior to dispatch. Yet to try it out.

MyWay+ card works without issues.

There is a wrinkle to disappearing records in the account. Going to the account, it opens at the 'Home' page. This page shows, amongst other details, buttons for 'Travel History' and 'Transaction History' with adjustable 0 to 10 item list. The travel history is 'on' to start with. NO date range is shown or selectable.

It turns out that the 'Home' page only shows very recent history, despite the selectable item list quantity.
To get older history, I have learnt,  requires going to a 'Summary' and, if needed, selecting a date range. But where is it? There is no direct reference to a 'Summary' on the 'Home' page.

On the 'Home' page at left is a column of selectable topics. One is 'Account Details' which shows personal/identity content. The next item below is 'Account History'. logically, this would seem to be related to 'Account Details' changes. BUT this is where the 'Summary' containing the selectable date range is to be found. Aaaaargh.

Old City West bus layover has still been regularly used by some drivers. That has now come to an end with the fencing off of the site for a Light rail 2a construction depot.
There is still at least one die hard out there - a bus laid over on Saturday in a part of the adjacent City West bus stop.

Quote from: triumph on December 27, 2024, 08:54:50 PM011 (R1 City > Phillip Avenue) QR used successfully but still flaky. Tap on needed moving phone about. Tap off required trying another validator.
......

Well, I had thought all was eventually good, but looking a moment ago in my account, the tap off was simply recorded as 'invalid stop ID'.  Peculiar, as the hardware is permanently fixed in place at the Light Rail Station. QR is even flakier than I had thought
