Below is a plan that  think would help services in the City to run smoother.

  • West Row & Alinga Street to become bus only roads.
  • Alinga Street would be redesigned so that there is a bus lane going each way with in between to become bus lay over
  • West Row would be for layover only with all traffic heading towards Alinga Street.
  • City West Bus Station would be altered so that there were bus stops going both directions.
Services would then go as follows

  • Northbound
  • S City West Bus Station
  • L University Avenue
  • R London Circuit (traffic lights would be installed)
  • S City East Bus Station (near Commonwealth Bank/Legislative Assembly)
  • R Northbourne Avenue
  • S Northbourne Avenue Bus Station
Belconnen/North West Canberra Services

  • L Barry Drive
  • *All other services continue as per current route

  • Southbound
  • S City West Bus Station
  • C Marcus Clarke Street
  • R Alinga Street
  • R Northbourne Avenue
  • S Northbourne Avenue Bus Station
  • L London Circuit
  • S City East Bus Station
  • *All services continue as per current route
*If anyone knows another way for the message to not appear squished together besides this big long list of dot point dots please help

if you plan to make alinga street bus only, why would you then go on to say you'd put bus lanes on alinga street?

Bus 400

So the lanes are distinguishable from layover.

Interesting TP; where would you see a light rail corridor fitting into this grid?

Bus 400

Light rail could just follow this same path

I suspect if/when light rail comes to Civic, the place will be so built up that underground would be the most effective way to go, at least for part of the way. Road builders think nothing of tunnelling these days.

An underground link with stations at the ANU, City West, Civic Interchange and City East (where the NCDC envisaged the permanent Civic Interchange would go, at the corner of Constitution, Allara and London Cirt)....
