Wed 3rd:  713* and  872

*I also used this on Lanyon to AIS Careers Expo Special on Wednesday.

Thu 4th:  717** and  131.

** I also used this on Farrer to National Museum Special on Thursday.

Fri 5th:  711 and  863 (Fraser's old shift bus??).

Snorzac

Fraser's old bus was 970. There really was a lot of old crap out at the careers expo on Thursday, Deanes had every old Leyland thing they could find and Bankstown had an Austral bodied coach (two stroke GM engine) which was the ultimate Steam Train.

Kramden

Yesterday: #796 Belco trainer with 10 newbies and two trainers on board.  We ventured into the deep south to practice navigation on routes 18, 19 and part of an 11.  Must have looked funny to passers by, all these blokes on board wearing high vis vests.  Might have looked like a prison bus...  LOL!

Barry Drive

[off topic] If that house in Gordon ever removes that 2 rail fence, there'll be lots of buses going the wrong way. [/off topic]

Kramden

[off topic] Yes indeed, the 'two railed trellis' was pointed out to us during navigation training yesterday.  That'll come in handy in future. [/off topic]

There is a (kind) reference to Fraser in some driver's scribblings on the bulkhead below the desto box - that was what set me off thinking 863 might have had some long past connection with him. (In the event, 863 was quite a nice bus to drive - internals not too bad either for a Mark 1).

Snorzac

I think it has an alpha desto which may explain a lot.

SATURDAY
Makeham's Coaches Coach 9-Countrylink Service CLK781 (Canberra to Cootamundra)
Countrylink XPT 2015-CLK623 (Cootamundra to Melbourne) *First time on a Countrylink train in 5+ years & good to see nothing has changed, with the NSW section of track still slowing the trains. Proof is we left Cootamundra 10 minutes late, Albury 15 minutes. Arrived Melbourne 5 minutes late.

SUNDAY
Had a bit of fun today in the city of trams.
Yarra Tram 2125-86 (Preston to Docklands)
Yarra Tram 2125-86 (Docklands to City)
Yarra Tram 5113-96 (City to St Kilda Beach)
Yarra Tram 5113-96 (St Kilda Beach to City)
Yarra Tram 3006-109 (City to Port Melbourne)
Yarra Tram 3006-109 (Port Melbourne to Montague)
Yarra Tram 5019-000 (City to City) *After a tram died at the depot & other trams ended up banking up, so the other tram was sent back down the line. So this tram was brought out of the depot to clear any back log through the city. Some passengers didn't like the 5-10 minute walk. I didn't care as I was able to walk past all the old trams that are used on the City Circle loop just sitting next to the footpath in the depot.
Metro Train 677M-Glen Waverly Line (City to Richmond)
National Bus 937-246 (Richmond to Elsternwick)
Metro Train 667M-Sandringham Line (Elsternwick to City)
Ventura Bus 947-Smartbus 907 (City to Mitcham)
Metro Train 8M-Lillydale Line (Mitcham to City)
Yarra Tram 2117-1 (City to Melbourne University)
Yarra Tram 141-72 (Melbourne University to Gardiner) *A pedestrian was a bit confused & abused the tram driver for honking at him. His excuse was the red light for the cars, means trams stop. This is (apparently) not the case, with pedestrians meant to give way to trams.
Ventura Bus 840-Tram 72 Replacement (Gardiner to Camberwell)
Yarra Tram 3002-109 (Camberwell to Kew)
Yarra Tram 3005-109 (Kew to City)
Yarra Tram 2050-86 (City to Preston)

The other place I had booked decided to close before I arrived & left no other contact details. I knew the name Rydges & Bell City was the closest may I ask what is wrong with Bell City anyway? It is only a 5 minute walk from a tram depot.

I'm not saying anything is wrong with it. I stayed there with a few other members in April. The only complaint I had was the small size of the twin share room. The view from the room on the 7th (?) floor was amazing!

I was down on the 1st floor.
Today
Yarra Tram 2053-86 (Preston to City)
Vline Loco N475 (Melbourne to Bairnsdale)
Dyson's Bus 490-Vline Service (Bairnsdale to Canberra) *As I come to the end of this trip, I highly recommend taking the Vline service to/from Canberra via Bairnsdale. For only $52 (including first class from Melbourne to Bairnsdale) it is cheaper then Countrylink & the coach is actually comfortable to sit in for 6 hours. That is unlike the Countrylink BCI which was uncomfortable after 2 hours. It was even worse as my wide load couldn't comfortably fit within the grooves of the seat (on the BCI).

Also the journey from Bairnsdale to Canberra is more scenic then via the barren Riverina region.

It was 'catch a bus to work day' so I caught 384 on a 314 sth and 469 for a 315 nth.

Yesterday it was 313.  Another nav day (routes 7, 9 and 10) but this time in an Iris. Wooooooo, fine to drive but how about them brakes!  Touchy... not feely, just very jerky.

Fri: nothing like another day of nav training in an Iris!  This time with #311.  Brakes much smoother.  Perhaps we're just getting better at it.  We did route 31 and parts of a 2, 10 and an 81.

Today it was a cross-section of pieces of runs: 2, 9, 10, 23, 24, 39, 63 in #363 bright and early out of Tuggy.  Noice.

Bus 400

Were you the one driving on the 9 route? I crossed the bus as it went past the new ASIO & I turned left into Constitution Avenue, but the driver I saw looked like a young gentlemen.

LOL!  Must have been my partner.  He's younger than me.  We're kind of young or at least we'd like to think we are.  Perhaps our grandchildren will disagree.  But then they can't speak yet!  Brave of you to be on the road at the same time as us newbies. (grin)
