Perhaps they should have ordered some more Elements given they managed to deliver four in the time BusTech delivered one bus.

Quote from: Barry Drive on October 25, 2023, 11:12:48 PMIt's mostly a rehash of the previous statement - supply chain, etc. - but the key message is: of the 17 Scanias still due to be delivered, 9 will arrive before the end of the year (if you can believe it) with the remaining 8 in early 2024.

Not looking good. It is now 9 weeks since last delivery, BUS730. It is always possible though, that they will turn up as a bunch or only a day or two apart.

There is a 'whisper' that there was an incident affecting 748 during delivery to Canberra, which later resulted in a brief return of 748 for repair/rectification. Confirmation?

Yeah, it is a bit sad, as to me it's kind of like someone yelling out to their friend. Oh hi, how are you doing? How are you been long time no see" as it gives a bit of recognisance in comparison to some other buses, and I think probably the reason as to why they used to have it on was for those who are visually impaired, and admit personally I have Jaywalked at the light rail intersection just because everybody can see down the street that traffic is going in a direction perpendicular to where the intersection is.(The vehicles are going parallel to the crossing one intersection over, but I do wonder specifically in regards to accessibility for the visually impaired, like as in, they could have it set up where they hold down a button to make the Bing bong noise in the same way, how a tram works, as yeah sure there is the horn, but it's kind of abrupt and jarring in comparison to "bing bing, bing, bang, bang, bang, bong, bong, bong" cause last thing you wanna do is scare someone off and have them move into an oncoming path of a different vehicle,

On on a note of accessibility, I remember that in the US I did notice that the buses there actually talk!  they would say for example " Route R 5, to City ANU via Calwell,  Erindale, Woden" it did that whenever the front door was opened or on articulated buses, it would be above both the rear and front doors, it wouldn't be loud, the speaker was placed above the doors in the same colour scheme as the rest of the bus, but it would be audible, I think that would probably be a neat thing They could introduce on the newer electric buses with the new Nxtbus+ system

Quote from: Bus967 on November 25, 2023, 04:28:29 PMWell, it seems like the bing bong is now gone on the Yutong, as now whenever it's under 20 km an hour, they no longer make a Bing noise, it's much more of a quiet, grinding noise, at least to my ears(confirmed on, 806) en route 76 at 4:26 pm Saturday)
Nice to hear (apologies) that the 'bing bong' for pedestrian alerting has been replaced. Even listening carefully, I can barely notice the alternative noise, so perhaps that means I am hearing (?) what amounts to a normal noise profile. I think this will improve fatigue and nuisance minimisation for drivers and add to passenger comfort.

Sadly, no amount of ambient noise is going to be effective for those concentrating on their phones or listening to music etc via ear plug speakers.

I would note that when Hobart had electric trolley buses, their quietness did not seem to be an issue then.

Another related aspect is the probably unintended pedestrian safety consequence arising from the reduced speed limits at most bus interchanges and urban centres. I have noticed that many pedestrians have become correspondingly bolder in taking risks, and just expecting drivers to avoid them. (Walking illegally against the 'Don't Walk' symbol is particularly rife at Westfield, Belconnen bus platforms and Northbourne Ave at Alinga St light rail.)

A report in 'X' yesterday says that there was a crash in Majura Ave about 10.30pm on Mon evening. This resulted in closure of Majura Ave between Wakefield Ave and Cowper St.
From the images, a Transport Canberra Operations vehicle was severely damaged at the front, and a Commodore at the rear (and the car perhaps also impacted on the side(s)). It seems the TC Staff on board the TC vehicle were injured as 3 persons were conveyed to Hospital, but the report is not clear that only one person was in the Commodore. If TC staff were injured, it is to be hoped that they will have a rapid and full recovery. The Holden driver is reported as breath testing +ve and was apparently an already suspended driver with charges expected to be laid.
From the images, the specific TC vehicle was not identifiable as no number plate, as far as I could see, was visible.
