Gordon motorcyclist Jarreth Newman has been named as the rider killed in a crash with a bus near Calvary Hospital on Wednesday night.

Police said the bike and bus collided at the intersection of Haydon Drive and Mary Potter Circuit about 7.10pm.

The bus was turning right out of Mary Potter Circuit and on to Haydon Drive, heading away from Belconnen Way. The motorcyclist was heading westbound, towards Belconnen Way.

Officer in charge of traffic operations Station Sergeant Susie Ball said a male motorcyclist, aged in his 20s, had been killed as a result of a collision with the side of the ACTION bus.

Mr Newman, 23, was taken to Calvary Hospital emergency department but died a short time later.

"We urge all motorists to keep a lookout for vulnerable road users driving on our streets to ensure all people are safe," she said.

"We don't know if speed was involved. There were a number of witnesses on the bus who were passengers. There were also a number of vehicles travelling with the motorcycle at the time.

"We need to establish who had right of way and see if there were any other factors involved."

Police said the bus driver was in a state of shock and was taken to Calvary Hospital for observation. She was helping police with their investigation.

It's the third road death in Canberra this year.

Police have urged any witness to contact CrimeStoppers on 1800 333 000 or crimestoppers.com.au.
