The first in what I suspect will be many, many posts about all the mouth-breathers I see doing spastic things on the roads.

Today coming into Belconnen Interchange off Emu bank there's two young guys in their cars parked side by side having a chat, while blocking the entrance. I of course honk the horn, they move up onto the grass to the right of the entrance. I stop next to one and ask him what the hell he's doing. He replies, "I just saw my mate". I tell him it's a bus interchange.

Admin Note: Title name changed. Please refrain from using potentially offensive wording.

I was behind a fuckwit Cabbie driving back from Olympic park the other night (uhhh wait it was 2 am) i wanted to pass the dick but he kept swerving all over the fucking place, got up beside him at the lights and he was looking at his GPS and every 30 or so secodns glimpsing up to see the road

Gah Fucking Taxi Drivers!!!! go Back to Harris Park where you belong!

Buzz Killington

Here's one for you..

I was driving along Isabella Drive a little while ago (Tuggers bound), on one of the one-lane-each-way stretches. A p-plater behind me (i was doing about 90 in an 80 zone, mind you) moves across onto the other side of the road driving as if its a second lane

I was naturally like *wtf* especially seeing as though we were about 100m from the roundabout - from which two cars had just exited and were headed straight for him. he quickly zipped back behind me just in time, and since i was turning left, flogged it through the right hand lane. What. a. MORON.

Busnerd

I was driving down parramatta road on the weekend and i saw a camry approaching an intersection and of course he rolls out into my lane doing about 20, so i held down the horn, slammed on the brakes, swerved across to lane three then back into lane two, and slowed down in front of him, honking the whole time, and its some asian guy and he gave me a thankyou wave!

and im about to head to the airport to get todd so expect reports of taxi's being honked at

Buzz Killington

reminds me, i was driving along drakeford (about where U-Stow-It is) at Kambah, in the right hand lane the other day. A moron in a commodore was in the left lane and just about where the left/right turn slip lanes begin.

Suddenly, the guy decides he wants to turn right, and cuts across all three lanes to do so, straight in front of myself and two other cars. if i hadn't slammed on the brakes i would've hit him for sure.

Rest assured, the brakes weren't all i slammed on.

Bus 400

I still remember the day when I was driving on the back round around Chisholm Shops past Chisholm Fire Station when I car puller in front of me & as I slammed the brakes & horn on, they kept on going for a metre & stopped in the middle of teh road with a clueless look on their face.

Another one is that motorcyclist that was in the news yesterday...(speaks for itself)

It was a Commodore me thinks

Busnerd

No, it was a white camry with a Red P.

Well we're back from the airport, i drove around the airport 3 times before I finally found a taxi to honk at. The traffic light  went orange and he moved into my lane, so i sped up just to honk him, and flashed the lights.

The light went green and he indicated to go back to the left lane, so i honked again, and then he spent 10 seconds sitting half in both lanes so i held down the horn then he stopped and I went past him shaking my head.

I came around to get todd and the cars were banked up waiting to get into the pick up bays, so i waited for a taxi to cut in front of, then sped around everyone waiting and stopped in a no stopping bay and picked up todd :)

Buzz Killington

i get the feeling this will be the most posted in thread since "some general discussion" in the moderators section

bubzie

i had someone go along every single frigging spot in the carpark today, who stopped, saw that there wasnt a car there, finally found a space (Leaving me to zoom around looking for one), and i saw them head towards the parking metre, noticed it, and was like "Oh, we have to pay for parking here??"

WHY??

Buzz Killington

Oh that reminds me..

I was in the Coles-side carpark of Tuggeranong today, and for those who don't know, you actually have to pay for your parking if you have been there for two hours or more, before you go back to your car.

Anyways, some stupid woman didnt realise, got out of her car, apologised to the person behind her and ran off (leaving her car and passenger sitting at the boom gate) to go pay for the parking. I was sandwiched in so i just had to sit there. after five minutes, i turned and saw her at the machine being helped by somebody else. Eventually she got back to the car and drove off. No less than thirteen cars were held up by her idiocy.

Bus 400

I have one type of driver for this thread title-Taxi Drivers.

Irisbus Rider

It's all good in Belconnen, believe it or not, I have not yet encounted a honk-worthy experience on the roads.

Give it time, eh....?

Bus 400

There were a few of these drivers around Civic last night, including 1, who at 12:30 had no headlights on. But the worst were the pedestrians who thought they were cars & walking in front of cars, taxi's,buses, fire trucks, etc on Northboune Ave.

Your to tolerable to others, i think a weekend or Rail Marshalling will do you good, you'll never pity a taxi driver again

Irisbus Rider

Ha ha, I'll have to bring out the bitch in me if I ever marshall then. Thanks for the warning :P

belcodriver

Yesterday confirmed that Friday afternoon is when Canberrans bring their Z-game on to the road.

First up I'm going straight through the Luxton St roundabout in the outside lane when this bikini-clad young girl in a Subaru station wagon zooms past me and cuts into my lane, I honk and narrowly miss then pulled up next to her at the lights. She had the passenger window open so I called out, "hey sweetheart how do you think your dad would feel if you sideswiped a bus in his car?" Unsatisfyingly she just gripped the wheel and looked blankly ahead.

Second, heading north on Gundaroo Dr past the Gungahlin Dr lights at the form one lane this woman sat level with the middle of the bus until it finally get into her thick head that I wasn't going to slow down and let her in and zoomed past just in time to avoid a collision. I'm not certain of the law but I operate on the assumption that whoever's nose is in front when merging should stay in front. To make matters worse she had two small kids in the car.

Buzz Killington

Pretty sure you're correct in your "nose in front" assumpion is what the law is.

Pics of bikini girl? :)

bubzie

I had some senior today at the traffic lights, when the lights went green, stayed there for about 10 seconds (I really should of beeped..), then finally moved, and went ..20kms/hr. I kid you not.

He's still probly on his way home now... (2 hours later :D)

Even if we're not correct about the law you'd think it would be prudent to get your snot-nosed spawn out of the way of a vehicle at least 5 times heavier than yours driven by someone who doesn't have to bear the cost of crash repairs.

No pics of bikini girl, I'm not that unprofessional.

Bus 400

It looks as if people seem to think that if they have a smaller vechile then yours they have right of way. As I drive a bloody long Toyota Camry & many a time I have people in cars similar to Hyundai Excels attempt to squeeze up my sdie when forming one lane. But as I am like 2m long I always get in front.

Irisbus Rider

Quote from: TP 3000 on January 19, 2009, 04:49:04 PMAs I drive a bloody long Toyota Camry

Nooooo!

I hope you don't drive the 5th version (i.e. 1997 to 1999 model).

I do have a story, but it's bus related.
I was with a driver heading to Woden on a 3 down Hindmarsh Dr, and we go into the lane to turn right, and leaving a safe gap between the car in front of us. One driver interpreted this gap as an opportunity to merge in front of us, leaving no more than 50cm between the bus and car. Naturally, the bus driver holds his horn down at this car cutting in front of us, and shows him a hand gesture representing what he thinks of the car driver.
The driver doesn't see to kindly to this, and slams his brakes on, in front of the bus, forcing us to do the same, throwing old grannies and their unrestrained shopping bags everywhere. The car driver merely speeds off, with a smirk on his face.
The driver said: "What that car doesn't realise is that this is a 16t bus, and his car is 1t, had I hit him, he would have ended up with a compact".
I think most car drivers don't realise how dangerous a bus can be.

Barry Drive

A few weekends ago my bus nearly had a Mercedes as a hood ornament - I was driving route 932 (north bound) along Commonwealth Ave. Once I entered the bus lane outside Albert Hall I started to accelarate because there were no passengers getting on or off. At the Flynn Place intersection there were two cars approaching - the one in front (a black Mercedes) was slowing down so I assumed that he/she was preparing to give way to me. Wrong!

It slowed down almost to a stop, then proceeded across the hold line almost in front of me. I don't know if they didn't see me coming or, like many drivers seem too, assumed that buses can't exceed 50 km/h. Since I didn't think that I could stop in time my only option was to swerve and blow the horn. It still didn't stop so I had to move completely into the middle lane to avoid hitting it. Fortunately there was no traffic in the lane otherwise it could have gotten ugly.

Irisbus Rider

You should have just hit it! For two reasons, it'll teach them a lesson, and, it would have been safer, to hit them, safer than swerving, but I understand, there is a lot of paperwork to fill out if you're involved in an incident.

Busnerd

I saw another example of people wanting to be hit today.

A 14.5 was on Wickham street in both lanes waiting to turn onto west botany street to then turn onto marsh street.

Of course a taxi decides to squeeze past and sit next to it at the lights. The light goes green and the bus starts to turn, the taxi obviously knew the bus needed two lanes, but he still cut the bus off causing it to slam on the brakes so the taxi could then speed ahead of it to turn left.

How do people get their licences? No one ever realises that they MUST give way to heavy vehicles that require two lanes to turn.

Another time I was on a 400 turning left onto coward street, he went into lane two with his left indicator on and just before he turned the wheel a car went into the 1st lane and turned left. I just wish the bus had started turning as that car would have gone crunch into the side of the bus, causing it to be written off. The bus wouldve just gotten two new panels.

Buzz Killington

Quote from: TP 3000 on January 19, 2009, 04:49:04 PMBut as I am like 2m long I always get in front.

heh

i think most cars are at least two metres..

Bus 400

Today I was heading north on Erindale Dr & at thee form 1 lane just after the Drakeford Dr lights when I had this car attempt to squeeze in front of me. But by the time the road became one lane, the front of his car was in line with my rearvision mirror & abused me for not letting him in front.

Buzz Killington

Busnerd

We had a weird one last night.

We were driving along then this tall ute appears to our rear in the next lane. He indicates into our lane for about 2km, but he clearly wasn't too concerned about getting in, he wouldnt slow down or speed up to get in. We were both just doing 60. Then he starts honking at us for not letting him in, so Norbert slows down then the guy moves into our lane and turns left about 5km later...

WTF?

If I was driving I would've put my right indicator on and started honking at him!

Buzz Killington

what a knob. i hate those people who just expect you to get out of their way.

Buzz Killington

some good examples from recent days..

i was turning right from Corranderk onto Parkes Way, on the inside lane of the roundabout. Some moron in a campervan waiting to turn right from Parkes into Corranderk, in the outer lane, sees me coming yet still decides to pull out (fair enough i think, he's in the other lane and he'll be going slower), but no. The moron cuts me off to get into the inside lane, then does about 10km/h around. Ugh.

Today, i was on Cooyong St, at the intersection with Northbourne. I was in the middle lane, at the front, waiting at the red light. I heard sirens and could see a fire truck in my lane. I stayed where i was because the right lane was free and there was nobody else coming up that would block them in. Northbourne had the green lights, and the three cars at the front of the pack of traffic going along northbourne were all speeding. The people in the left and right lanes saw the truck and stopped, but the DICKHEAD in the middle lane decided to keep going, resulting in him always being T-Boned by a firetruck doing at least 50 km/h. The end result was the firetruck had to slam on the brakes to avoid shunting the car well across northbourne, and braked hard enough to squeal the tires. The firetruck absolutely blasted the horn at the moron.

Aside from that, i really hate people who sit in the right lane on the parkway, southbound, then cut everyone off when they decide at the last possible second that they want to turn off at Hindmarsh.

Bus 400

The thing that I have seen the last few weeks has been people will sit in the right lane on Athllon Dr & sit on 60k's. Then they turn left at the next intersection.

Also I don't know if anyone has any more information. But there was one bad driver this afternoon, with an accident at the intersection of Northbourne Avenue & Bunda Street which resulted in a car being on its side & all southbound lanes on Northbourne being closed & diversions in place.

Buzz Killington

I didnt see anything, must have been after i left civic this arvo.

Bus 400

I heard it on the 17:00 104.7 Traffic Report. Although I have heard them mention a broken down bus at an intersection that I was driving through at the time & no bus was there.

Buzz Killington

ugh, like that moron on 104's time saver traffic has any idea what he is talking about. i'm yet to hear a SINGLE report where he doesnt mess up his words.

and while i'm at it, why did they change the time saver traffic music for like two weeks before changing back to the thunderbirds theme?

Snorzac

I heard on 104 while I was at work that there were 2 cars overturned on Northbourne ave

Buzz Killington

Ed

Quotebut the DICKHEAD in the middle lane decided to keep going, resulting in him almost being T-Boned by a firetruck doing at least 50 km/h

It'll be hilarious if the dickhead did get T-Boned by the firetruck. He deserved every bit of it.

Buzz Killington

I was turning right from Soward Way into Scollay St this afternoon to go the Caltex servo, with one car in front of me (a P plater). As most of you would know, there are no arrows on these traffic lights, meaning you have to give way to any vehicles travelling straight ahead through the intersection, before you turn right.

The driver in front of me chose not to give way, or believed that they had it, because they decided to turn right, and ended up right in front of 898 which was going straight ahead through the intersection. The driver slammed on the brakes and the horn, and the car appeared to slam on theirs for a minute too, before putting the foot down to get out of the buses' path, thankfully managing to get out of the way before any damage was done... to the bus :)

I also believe the driver may have been one of those who is a member here, but doesnt post too often.

A year 12 at my school yesterday was showing off trying to drift through the bus bay, lost control and hit a tree, what a dickhead!

Bus 400

All Sydney drivers got their licences from cerea packets. After spening 3 days there last weekend I have seen most speed, go through red lights-even if it turns red as they reach the stop line, love tailgating & blowing their horn & swerving through each other. Although to get anywhere in Sydney you have to shove your way into lanes.

bubzie

ok, so yesterday, i was in the right hand lane of a roundabout, going straight through it.
In the left lane, right next to me, was someone who presumably was either going straight through, or turning LEFT.

About half way through, she decided, that she needed to be in my lane. So she went straight into my lane, without looking, and came THIS CLOSE to me running into her car.

My horn was beeped, and some classy words were said.

Bus 400

At the intersection of Moore St & Alinga St, some moron zoomed in front of 340 that was heading into City Interchange & 340 just missed by seconds from t-boning it.

Also this one is different, but a cyclist thought that he could dash across Barry Drive & beat a fire truck this morning. But of course he came off second best.

Buzz Killington

ahhh so that's what happened to that cyclist. i drove past and saw him sitting on the road, blood all over his face, being treated by the firies and ambos.

Bus 400

Not long after the incident the ACTION van was there helping with traffic & a few cops. Not quite sure if the truck was heading under lights & sirens because as soon as it happened, they had the flashing lights anyway.

Bus 400

Today I drove behind the funeral possession for David Balfour from Phillip Fire Station to Woden Cementery & most drivers were ok.

Except for when the procession turned left on Yamba Dr. The first car in the lane to turn right from Hindmarsh Dr to Yamba Dr was going to wait for the procession. However the impatient pricks behind them abused them until they moved. However the first car waited on Yamba Dr for the procession to pass & the line of 5/6 cars cued up across the intersection. At least the last car picked up a ticket for going through the red light (as they crossed the line as the camera flashed (but the west bound lanes had not had a green light yet). These impatient pricks were also held up as there was a police car at the rear of the procession blocking cars from overtaking everyone else.

Now anybody with compassion & brains (like that first car) would wait for the procession to pass & wouldn't care if you were late because a great bloke had his funeral procession on your road.

Bus 400

Went investigating today.

The accident on Belconnen Way/Barry Drive/Fairfax Street was the result of a car on Belconnen Way speeding through the Fairfax Street lights & it just so happens that a car has come from Fairfax St & the force has rolled the Fairfax Street car.

Then on my way back there was another accident on Johnson Drive, Calwell where it appears that this Toyota Echo has either un up the back of another car or had a head on with another vechile. When I had a sticky beak that Echo/Corolla was the only vechile there with Police Accident Investigation Group & Roads ACT Clean Up Crew.

Buzz Killington

They showed the Belconnen/Barry/Fairfax accident on ABC News last night. One car was on its roof in the middle of the intersection.

Bus 400

#50
Saw the spray paint marks & car fluid that was just east of the intersection. As at the time of impact Belo Way car would of been doig 80k's+ attempting to race the lights but failed miserably.

Bus 400

The crash at the top of Clyde Mountain this morning is a pure example of someone who picked up there licences from a Corn Flakes Box. The crash was someone who attempted to overtake someone on a blind corner in low cloud at the top of Clyde Mountain. This meant that the driver in the wrong almost ended up over the cliff as did the car they hit.

QuoteThis meant that the driver in the wrong almost ended up over the cliff

It'll be far better if that driver did go over the cliff. One less dumb driver from the human gene pool.

Buzz Killington

not once but twice today i was sitting in heavy traffic in the right lane, with cars in front of me and to to the left, and have had some tosser driving about 10cm behind me, as if i can magically part the lanes ahead of me to create room for them to drive.

the second occasion, the moron even had the nerve to put her high beams on. Doesn't really work when its daylight, douchebag.

Bus 400

In those cases I take my foot off the accelerator to slowly slow down.

I even had a case when I was on Woodock Dr & I had this driver behind me swerving within his lane, so I copied him.

Buzz Killington

i slowed down allright, just not slowly. then i boxed her in.

Bus 400

I had one yesterday. My 80 was pulling out of the Convention Centre stop on Constitution Avenue & there was a car turning right into Convention Centre carpark. So this VW Golf driver squeezes in between the bus & car & just misses being spun by bus. Then at the next lights, the bus is in the right lane to turn onto London Circuit & the VW driver in the left lane now. But he wanted to move into the right lane to turn right. But he indicated just as the bus approached him & the driver didn't let him in of course.

My other one was today when I had this old lady sit in the right hand lane of Adelaide Avenue/Yarra Glen/Melrose Drive on 75k's only to turn left at Hindmarsh Drive.

Snorzac

There's some tools drag raing down my street. I think little of them

Bus 400

There was one I saw today that had a DC number plate (they get away with breaking the law). This one was in the right lane on the west bound Hindmarsh Drive at the Callam Street lights. As the lights went green, they decided that they wanted to go to Phillip Marketplace, so they crossed all 3 lanes to enter via slip lane. I then met them again coming into Woden Plaza when they were in the left lane into the underground parking, waiting for pedestrians to cross, as I moved into the right lane (to turn right) they sped into car-park & just missed some pedestrians. I then saw them in the car-park to the south of the underground car-park. They just missed another car while cutting across the 80% empty car-park.

People may of heard of the accident on Taverner Street, Wanniassa/Oxley this afternoon. Well the driver of that car has some how made it across an underpass cutting (on Trinity Christina College side) & smashed into a tree. From what I could see the skid marks where just past the Laurens Street intersection. When I went past the 3 victims had been taken to hospital & the fire brigade were pushing the tree off the car.

When are people going to learn to drive to the conditions.

Busnerd

What are you death?

Or do you have a police scanner...you accident gunzell, your always on the scene!

Calling my call the Grim Reeper is just a coincidence. Driving past Taverner Street accident was only coincidental as I was going from Greenway to Calwell. Others I usually try to make my way out there eventually

This evening I saw a driver driving the wrong way up Brisbane Avenue.

Buzz Killington

had one moron this afternoon sitting under the speed limit (80) in the right lane of Adelaide Avenue. I sat behind them expecting they would move over, as the road rules state that where the road is 80km/h or over you are to keep left unless overtaking.

Well, they didnt take too kindly to me. They sped up when i got in the left lane to go around them, and stayed along side me, then boxed me in so i couldnt get in front of them.

I got in behind them to turn right at the big roundabout, and as they were in the left lane of the roundabout, i indicated to get into the right - they then cut me off so they could sit in front of me on the roundabout!

Bus 400

That is when you blow the horn & call them special names.

Today there was an accident in the slip lane of Ginninderra Drive & Ross Smith Drive SCULLIN. Well the Police were in attendance & the right turn slip lane from Ross Smith Drive onto Ginninderra Drive was blocked by the Police & accident. But there was a car that was intent on turning right on Ginninderra Drive. I drove off up Kippax, but when I returned 10-15 minutes later everything was clear.

Irisbus Rider

After driving through the country, I'd have to say, they have the worst drivers. 60km/h in a 110km/h zone is not acceptable lol.
They were soon trashed!

Bus 400

Over the last few days were do I start......

On Wednesday & Thursday morning, there were cars (with interstate number plates) who were in the northbound Adelaide Avenue bus lane/T2 doing 70-75k's. The bus overtook them & on Thursday this interstate twat started abusing him, but the bus driver took the action that a certain percentage of "experienced" bus drivers would do

Again on Wednesday as we are coming in on a 315 south, a Black Station Wagon with QLD number plates cuts the bus off as it heads into the bus only section of the Woden Interchange entrance road. The bus driver "alerts" the car as to what he has done, but the car driver slams on the brakes (still in front of the bus) & abuses the bus driver.

On Thursday our bus is again on a 315 south & as he is exiting Cohen Street Bus Station, he indicates to merge to the right & is waiting for the car next to him to go past. Well the driver of that car starts abusing the bus driver (we think, she thinks the bus is going to cut her off, but he isn't)

Thats when you don't stop, run up the back of them, and let the car driver find out that they're in the wrong.

Busnerd

If you hit your brakes in front of a bus, you are on camera, at fault and you will be paying for a new bumper for the bus and a new car for yourself :) The front is generally the strongest part of a bus, so don't try your luck

I'm sure the incidence of drivers not turning their lights on at night is on the increase....There is no excuse for it. In the past it would have been considered a very serious offence and the police would have come down on such drivers with  a tonne of bricks....not any more it seems.

One ACTION driver I know alerted a motorist that her lights were off - her reply? "It's OK - I can see alright without them"!!!!!!!!!!! So much for any sense of social responsibility.  I'm OK Jack - mind your own business.

Bus 400

If I get a chance, I usually give them full beam & the horn. I have told the statistic is for every kilometer you drive, you'll see one car without a headlight on

I've jumped out of the bus & told someone that only had their park lights on (probably gave them a shock).

Buzz Killington

i question the accuracy of that statistic however there is always somebody.

Bus 400

This morning (peak hour) a white Holden Statesman was parked into between stands 6 & 7 in City Interchange dropping off a passenger. However the front of the car was facing Platform 6 & the bonnet was closest to Platform 7. The City Supervisors quickly told him off. He had stopped there as buses were 2 wide on the right side of the road & he was an impatient so & so. I was told that as punishment his female friend couldn't catch the bus that she wanted & had to wait for the next bus.

Busnerd

Why are people so dumb?

How can you miss all the signs that say NO ENTRY BUSES EXCEPTED, if you are not a bus, DO NOT enter, you should hand in your licence for being so stupid.

If they continue to do this then call the police and let them know, they would also be on CCTV so they are pretty dumb.

Bus 400

What about the fact that when a bus parks in the exact same spot Platform 7 is to the front of the bus & Platform 6 is behind them.

What about the idiot that had broken bail & was caught doing 140k's down Beasley Street FARRER. Then created a 3 car smash at Beasley Street/Athllon Dr TORRENS that had that bit of Beasley Street closed from 14:35 to atleast 19:00.

Also somebody smashed into a light pole at Isabella Dr/Clive Steele Ave ISABELLA PLAINS

Someone also lost control on Athllon Drive/Langdon Ave WANNIASSA. Don't know what happened but a car parked on the southbound side has its front right damaged & a right rear has been hit.

Please refrain from referring to drivers in these accidents as 'idiots' unless you know all the facts. I'll let the Beasley one slide because well, 140 in a 60..

had one moron this afternoon sitting under the speed limit (80) in the right lane of Adelaide Avenue. I sat behind them expecting they would move over, as the road rules state that where the road is 80km/h or over you are to keep left unless overtaking.
Sorry about taking so long to bring this up, but they don't say that. From the ACT Road Rules handbook, page 74 (http://www.tams.act.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0004/64480/Part_D1_-_Road_Craft_2009.pdf) :

Quote
Keeping to the left on a multi-lane road
This rule applies on a multi-lane road where:
• the speed-limit is over 80 km/h; or
• a keep left unless overtaking sign applies.

Bus 400

Well lets see
This morning someone was taking rubbish to the tip & were turning right from Erindale Drive onto Long Gully Road, when at the set of lights went straight ahead into the light pole.

Then this evening on Gozzard Street, Gungahlin. A P Plater in a hotted up car went on the wrong side of the road near the McDondalds/KFC intersection. It appears as if they've hit the car they were trying to overtake as the other car turned right (in front of them). Just so everyone knows, Gozzard Street is one lane each way.

Irisbus Rider

2 P platers were involven in a 3 car pile up on Northbourne today.

Oh, and there was some other idiot P plater who drove from Belconnen to just before his street with just his parkers on..........oh, wait, that was me, Canbera's definately too well lit.

Doesn't your head stick out the sunroof anyways? You don't need lights!

Provided there is a sunroof, yes. Unfortunately the 1997 Toyota Camry CSX didn't come with a sunroof as an optional extra.

Well today I witnessed some impatient twats or either didn't see or didn't want to wait for the lights to do their round & went through the intersection of Athllon Drive & Drakeford Drive with the 4WD Ambulance Vechile waited at the lights with its flashing lights & sirens. People did eventually get the message & waited. I also abused the twats that didn't wait with a few hand gestures. They would of got more if I had stopped at the lights next to the ambulance.

I also had an old bidy sit on 60k's in the far right lane of Hindmarsh Drive from Melrose Drive all the way to Cooleman Court.

When on 361 today on the 319 just near Calvary Hospital on Belconnen Way some stupid lady in a falcon pulled in front of the bus to get in the lane to turn narrowly missing the bus only because the driver of the bus noticed and ran up onto the median strip a tad. The car driver just seemed unaware of the huge green bus!!

I come across motorists like this lady a lot. It's almost as if they think that if they don't register that a bus is on collision course with them, it won't hit them. Unreal.

Busnerd

Well if you can't stop, you can't stop...now that would be such a shame to total the idiots car.

It's not like you care, it's not your bus. They learn the lesson and they will be forced to catch the bus until their car is repaired.

Bus 400

I've also been told with accidents is that bus drivers will always drive home in their car, while the other motorists won't always.

Now today where do I start. All this occured on Northbourne Avenue between the intersection of Barry Drive & Macarthur Avenue & were all NSW Plated cars.

Firstly a car was sitting on Cooyong Street & waiting in the left hand lane. Well they decided they wanted to turn right onto Northbourne Avenue & moved right across as the light turns red & block where pedestrians walk & part of the left lane of Northbourne Avenue. They went off when the lights go green. Further up a Ford Falcon stops in the bike lane/left lane of Northbourne Avenue & picks up a passenger waiting at the bus stop. They then shove their way through cars blowing horns & passing them. Then just before the Macarthur Ave lights some little incident occurs & they block traffic. Eventually all cars do drive off after jumping for 15 seconds, the Ford Falcon that was mentioned before pulls up behind one of the cars that pulls up after lights.

The sad thing is that I wasn't bothered recording the bus going down Northbourne Ave tonight

Sir Pompously

Well, I have had an eventful day.

1. Avis Rental van tailgating me (All I could see was his Tiyota Badge) with employee driving. Tapped my brakes to warn him to back off (If I had to stop suddenly I would have had one large van in my boot). He then had the nerve to abuse me, so I flipped out my rudie at him as he drove to Avis

2. Near the Caltex on Tyson Dr, it is one way between the Caltex and new entry/exit overpass. Two vehicles (Both with NSW plates, need I say more?) were travelling the wrong way down the one way street (Neither were together, however each was almost at the same time). The First was a Tiyota Camry, who I held down my horn and stood my ground in the left lane (He flipped out his middle and I just held down the horn, moved to my left as I was not moving from the left hand lane). The other was again a Tioyta, Which I wound down my window, explained it was one way to be told 'We Know' and 'Move your car so we can get through'. I replied with 'Well you f**king shouldn't be driving if you are that blind'. I mean, what stupid people knowingly go down a one way road, and continue down it as cars are coming in the opposing direction?

The answer, Drivers who got their licences from a cereal packet.

I think this goes here.

This morning a Queensland plated Toyota 4WD parked on Platform 1 & was about to dash into Dick Smith. However the Supervisor ran over & the driver had an argument over parking on a bus platform.

Busnerd

I saw a good display last night.

At strathfield there is a one way road around in a loop. When you come in you can go on the left or on the right, they have a bus bay style setup on both sides, cars can drive on either side and both roads go the same way. We had the left lane closed because of rail buses, but the right was open.

A car came in and was directed to use the right lane, they sped up to the barrier, turned right, then reversed back and drove off in the middle of the one way road, which at this point is 4 lanes, they just sort of drove in lane 3, swerving at the oncoming cars honking at them, they then made another illegal left turn despite several NO ENTRY signs.

-I was up at Cameron Ave Bus Station last night & there were quite a few cars leaving the club without any headlights on

-On Athllon Drive (southbound) last night I was in a bus going up the hill out of Woden Valley & the bus caught up to a car, this car was doing about 60k's moved to the right lane, braked & waited for my bus & another bus to go by & moved back in behind them.

Sir Pompously

Was going back to work after forgetting my ASIC yesterday and was approaching a Form One Lane on Isabella Drive. A car comes out of the Roundabout as I am forming one lane, with indication to the right. I did a head check only to notice a car fly up my side and onto the other side of the road to get around me. He promptly got the wanker hand movement.

I may of found the Cereal packet that some get their license from:

This week I was driving up Barry Drive/Belconnen Way & the whole way I saw this Learn To Drive School car weaving in & out of traffic & breaking a varying style of roads rules. Caught up to the car at Eastern Valley lights & it was just some guy in his late 20's on his own (luckily).

Witnessed about 3/4 other similar incidents this week & I don't know if it was a coincidence but they were all north of the lake.

An intersting story on the Sydney edition of 7 News tonight, for the breakfast on the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the bridge was closed last night for the grass to be layed down. Well done to the two cars that chose to ignore the "LEFT LANE MUST TURN LEFT" sign at the intersection of Eastern Valley Way and College Street, drive straight ahead, and nearly cause a multi-vehicle collision by then attempting to cut into the right lane (as the left lane was closed)

Buzz Killington

I'm sure southsiders are well aware of the lights at the corner of Callam and Corinna Streets in Woden, and when you turn right from Corinna, there are two right turn lanes controlled by lights. Generally those who want to turn left at Hindmarsh will utilise the left right-turn lane, while those wanting to turn right at Hindmarsh take the right lane. Those wanting to continue onto Athllon will take either.

I was in the right lane, and intended to continue onto Athllon. Thankfully I turned the corner rather slowly and was paying attention, because some old bitty in the left lane decided halfway through the turn to drift over into my lane without any notice.

A good blast of the horn didn't even register with her.

And the kicker? She was going straight ahead into Athllon anyway.

Incident 1-Belconnen Builder
As I was coming into Belconnen along Aikman Drive, I & a car behind me stopped at the Lake Ginninderra College pedestrian crossing to let someone walk across. 10-20 seconds later some guy in a builders truck & trailer slams on his brakes behind us & ends up moving towards the verge. All I heard was the truck sliding & the horn being blown at the car behind me for stopping.

Story 2-Mid Life Crisis Woman
This evening my brother was coming back from Skyfire along Constitution Avenue, when a silly old woman in a Ford Falcon rear ended him. He pulls over & inspects & she tells him she'll follow him to a safer place to park. He finds a space & spots her accelerating & then heavy braking a few times at another car up ahead. The funny thing was that this all happened a few minutes before I went through there & he also arrived at Woden Police Station as I was driving on the other side of Woden (he couldn't be bothered going to City Police Station as of traffic). Apparently she sounded like she had a few screws loose.

belcodriver

Heading into Woden as you turn left off Melrose Dr into Launceston St, you get your own lane, ie car turning left DO NOT have to give way. However lots of idiots stop and wait because they want to take the first right at the Tradies and need to cross two lanes to do so. I of course apply maximum bus horn until they move which usually means they have to take the second right which always makes me laugh. The courteous thing to do would be to go straight through the lights and then take the first left.

One this afternoon was, at the southern exit to Woden Interchange a car stops at the stop line on Bradley Street & gets a green light & goes. However before they exit the intersection the lights go amber, so the car stops. Only thing is that it is right where buses go through when heading towards Platform 8-10, luckily only one bus went through that intersection & made it past the car.

Also, one last week. I was sitting at the lights at Northbourne/London, heading north on Northbourne, and a guy turning right into Northbourne (southbound) from London decided to turn into the northbound lanes, instead of going through the centre and turning into the southbound lanes. He was then put directly into the path of a taxi, and had to pull a u-turn across three lanes to get back in the right direction.. except he didn't turn hard enough and ended up op on the gutter outside the law courts carpark..

This evening I'm travelling through the Kings Ave/Parkes Way roundabout, when I encounter a car parked across my lane in the roundabout. I due the usual horn & high beam & with traffic flying to my right I can't change lanes.

After 30 seconds I get run up the back of, the so & so who blocked my lane drives off & my car is seriously damaged with possible chassis damage. Which is lucky to the car blocking me as they would of been t-boned & possibly killed by the 4WD that hit me.

Buzz Killington

The car was parked across your lane?

The main thing is that you weren't injured. Although I wonder just how fast the 4WD (in what is a roadwork zone) was going if your car suffered major damage.

The line the Hyundai was waiting on was the lane marker for the second lane. The 4WD must of going at a fair speed, the thing is that this lane has been changed from a bus/left turn only lane to anyone. So imagine if an artic had come flying along & not been able to stop in time in the wet?

We suspect the damage on the car may be more then what the car is worth, so when I leave tomorrow morning to limp it to Mitchell for an insurance quote. The car won't be coming back & might be stored at my work. But if the car is scrapped, I hope the ACT Fire Briagde buy it & use it for training (with Bus 703).

Below is a recent sarcastic posting on RiotACT called 'Driving in Canberra': Writer provides a good summary of most of the common bad driving habits but omits to mention two of my pet hates, namely
(1) makes sure you rob buses and other heavy vehicles of their 'safety cushion' by merging into it at every opportunity, particularly when approaching traffic lights,
and (2) relieve driving boredom by playing with your mobile phone, Ipod etc especially while waiting at traffic lights, even if your delayed response to a green light causes other vehicles to be delayed and to miss the green cycle.
————————————-
RIOTACT Posting:-
- Using your indicator might give away your intentions to the enemy (i.e. other drivers) and should therefore only be used for calculated disinformation. If you must use your indicators, do not indicate until you are at least halfway through changing lanes/turning. [Bonus points for cutting someone off and indicating after the fact].

- Never drive in the lane that has the exit you intend you use (this is usually the slowest lane, and often involves a queue). Drive in the fastest lane and cut in at the last moment. [Bonus points for doing this on a regular basis and also referring disparagingly to refugees as 'queue jumpers'].

- Drive as close as possible to the car in front of you. This not only prevents other drivers changing lanes, but also makes the car in front of you go faster. [Bonus points: In the event of an accident, insist that you are completely blameless and that fault lies with the driver of the car in front of you for "braking too quickly"].

- The speed limit throughout the ACT is actually the posted speed limit plus another 20 kph. This limit is to be considered a minimum speed limit, and any driver failing to maintain this speed is morally equivalent to a child rapist who drowns puppies while writing songs for Lady Gaga. [Bonus points for dangerously overtaking drivers who have the temerity to drive at the posted sign limit while making furious gesticulations and screaming injunctions to "keep left"]

- In rainy/wet conditions, drive faster. This will get you home quicker, which means that you'll spend less time on the roads. Spending less time on the road means there is significantly less time for an accident to occur.

- Construction site speed limits are for chumps.

- Never let anyone pass you, ever.

If water craft drivers count I can add a few from today. As a part of the return of yachtslady Jessica Watson every Joe blow who owned a boat was on the harbour. Once or twice the Manly ferry came to a stop with the horn being blasted twice that due to people sailing in front or too close to the ferry. With small boats cutting across the ferry as we approached Circular Quay.

Plus quite a few drivers cutting off buses/not giving way to buses/parking in bus stops & lanes.

Well where do I start for today... Going along Gungahlin Drive past Palmerston, in an 8 tonne truck. I had one little old lady in a Ford Focus thing cut in front of the truck. Then at the Gundaroo Dr lights, had an international person in a Toyota Camry in the right turn lane cut in front of me again. I do wonder about the mentality of those who think they are better off versing a big vechile, be that a bus or truck.

It was also reported to ne that another international person drove the wrong way down a Canberra expressway this afternoon, with everyone flashing lights & blowing horns. If I was there I would of forced the culprit into a ditch, just to stop me.

Nah it was a black Corolla, at least you can see a white car on a well lit road.

Heading south on Barry Drive this afternoon & going past the busway road works everyone was doing the 40k speed limit ( :o  I know). This was because the Police car that is all white with just the light bar was at the front of the queue. Then just after the Clunes Ross Street lights most cars returned to the 60k speed limit. All, except for the car that was next to the Police car who did what nobody (normally) does & overtakes the Police car.

I had an infuriating few seconds of driving on my way home earlier;
At approximately 11:55am, I was travelling in the left lane, westbound down Ginninderra Drive, between Kingsford Smith Dr and Tillyard Dr, travelling at approx 80-85km/h. To my right, a tipper truck carrying dirt, driven by a young fella trundles past me in the right lane a few km/h faster than myself. When he is barely 1m infront of my vehicle in the right lane, he abruptly merges into the lane I was travelling in, with a single flash of the indicator (which was only activated when he was already in my lane).
That's not the worst of it, as soon as he merged into the lane I was in, my vehicle, with barely a few metres to spare between myself and the tipper truck, begins to get pelted with small missiles, in the form of dirt, and small rocks, as he was carrying a load of dirt in his tipper, which was not covered.
His combined actions caused me to slow dramatically, which posed a hazard to vehicles travelling behind me.

I'm usually understanding of drivers who lack a certain ability, but this driver was just a fair dinkum wanker, the typical young and aggresive driver, with little no no knowledge of how to handle a heavy vehicle, and a complete disregard for all other vehicles on the road. His display of reckless driving (and the uncovered load) deserves to be reported (I just don't know where to report him to! If anyone knows, drop me a line).

And, just to make it clear, myself and the other driver were not involved in a previous altercation on the road, which may justify his actions towards me (even still, that type of behaviour is not appropriate).

Simply put, he is just an unsafe, and erratic driver who poses a risk to not only himself, but others on the road.

p_stampy

Maybe he was stealing some dirt and had never driven a truck before?

That suck's though.... it's annoying when things like that happen to you, esp when you're having a good day or whatever. That's why I like catching the bus, I don't have to worry so much about those kind of things.

On my "fun" day at the snow on Wednesday, spotted 1 car attempting to travel in the snow without chains, a few that turned around & got stuck.

But on the way home this afternoon, had a car that would speed up whenever my coach could overtake & would slow right down when he couldn't. The car was high beamed a few times & it all ended when the car traveled in the " break down" lane to let a ute pass & then slowed down in front on the coach. So the coach driver horned him & ended up overtaking on a normal stretch of road, with the back end of the coach very close to the front of the car. As we passed the car "(boofheads) were laughing their head off. Petty I wasn't in the front seat of the coach or they would of been abused by mewah a bit.

Further down an Audi overtook a line of cars & just missed having a head on with a car & a 4WD was overtaking a car & almost had a head on with our coach.

This morning a truck driver managed to do a bit of damage to their truck by hitting those big plastic walls filled with water at the Kings Avenue overpass work traffic lights for traffic heading south onto Kings Avenue. Now a 16 or so metre bus can get around there easily, but this truck failed. The only way I can see this guy doing this was sneaking up on the inside lane (which I would never try in anything bigger then a car) as the rear left of the truck is fairly heavily bent in. I'll try & get a photo of the damage tomorrow.

Bus 400

Coming home on a 66 from Woden to Erindale, the articulated bus I was in was following a small car thing. Now from sitting up the back I could tell the car was a slow poke, with the bus accelerating to get power & then having to brake to stop hitting the car. Well the bus driver told me not long after the hospital, this car hit the gutter & did a bit of swerving. Then as we are heading up the hill past Farrer & Isaacs, the car decides to slam on its brakes & come to a sudden stop right on Yamba Drive. The bus slams of the brakes, as does a car & PR3 behind us (from the back seat it looked like the bus just missed the car, but I was reassured by the bus driver there was plenty of room). Well as the bus moves over to the right lane to go around the car driver (who has blocked one lane of Yamba Drive at 17:30 in the afternoon), I did notice the passenger jump out quickly. But if something was wrong, why couldn't the car driver move onto the grass? As the bus driver did say if we were going down the hill it could of been worse, especially in the rain.

For those that don't know I had my first accident on sunday.

I was driving a railbus to Hornsby on the pacific highway, having just left lindfield station I moved to lane two, as I came around the bend there was a car reverse parking from lane to into lane 1 and two vehicles stopped behind him. No one was behind me so I moved into the third lane. I was fully in my lane as I was passing the two stopped cars when one of the stationary cars decided she would move into my lane as i was passing. The front of the bus passed the car no worries, just as I passed I thought, geez...that car is bloody close, CRUUUUUNCH...looked in the mirror and saw the cars bumper fall off....Pulled over straight away and checked the woman was ok. She was apologising continously.

From what I gather happened I was coming around the bend at about 40km/h and she obviously checked her mirror before I got there, thought Oh I will change lanes, but did not do a head check before moving, had she done so she would have seen me. But obviously she didnt and she was obviously just in my lane a tiny bit and made contact with my wheel arch and put scratches and dents in the bus almost down to the next axle. The car had its bumper removed and the drivers door dented and scratched. I wsa worried at first with what looked like blood spatter, i quickly realised it was just livery from the bus :P

Almost had a head on last night passing Charnwood, when a bogan mobile did a u turn in front of me and headed straight for me on the wrong side of the road just as it goes to dual carriageway on Ginninderra Drive. Had to swerve into the shoulder to prevent a crash. Wankers.

Bus 400

Surprisingly I haven't seen any extra special drivers for a while. Today changed that though.

"Hanging around" Platform 8 at Woden Bus Station when a taxi pulls up to the traffic lights. Only problem is he is on the wrong side of the road. Now a bus pulls in Woden & (as anyone would do) blasts the horn for the taxi to get out of the way, with the sad thing being it was a MAN bus. Now Mr Taxi driver then backs out of the way of the bus, all the way down Bradley St & past the no entry signs (with bus flowing in tow). He then turns into Bradley Street towards the McDonalds. I have no idea what the passengers were thinking, but I had a nice big giggle. I hope the bus driver involved made a report of this, just so the camera footage can be saved & sent into that 'Surveillance Oz' show.

Since I don't have all night to give any mention to lovely driving skill I saw in 2013. Below are a some over the last few days.

I think it was Friday or Saturday night just gone. I was behaving myself on the Tuggeranong Parkway with a car on my right taking forever to overtake. He finally overtakes & then slows right down for the Cotter Road speed camera (apparently the cameras fine you for doing the speed limit). So since I have no idea time for this idiocy I've caught up quite close. Idiot decides to boot his rust bucket up the hill, so I give the V6 Camry a bit extra boost & fly up the hill leaving him in my dust. As you can guess I'm no longer behaving myself sitting above the speed camera leeway. He catches up, but gets caught behind a slow car & sits right up their arse (he must of been desperate to sit in the other cars backseat). So I fly off & sadly be exits onto Hindmarsh Drive.

Today's is a little less naughty, while I'm sitting at the lights in a Mitchell to turn right from Hoskins St into Sandford St. A guy in a Magna has the green to turn right from Sandford St into Hoskins St. He is sitting in the middle of the road, waiting for the traffic continuing along Sandford St to go. The lights for Sandford St traffic go red, & Hoskins St traffic get the green. So what does he do you ponder, go thru against the red like many of us would. No he sits there & blocks my lane, eventually as I decide to go around the back of him he reverses out of the intersection.

Then on my way to Westfield tonight coming from Bing Lee Carpark, so tossed couldn't be fd going all the way around Egan Court to access the doctor surgery. So they wait & wave all the cars coming out of Egan Court & enter Egan Court a& drive down the one way street the wrong way.

Then I may as well add one from my Gran. While she was sitting in the shelter down at Kambah Village. A woman in a little car turns right into Primmer Court (Kambah Village road thingy) from Marconi Crescent. She then manages to mount the kerb, but her way out of this predicament is to reverse back onto Marconi Crescent. Now while I may have a proper car, surely any sort of car can drive down a gutter?

Now hopefully you all are still awake & haven't been confused by what I just typed.

My wife saw one the other day outside the old police station in Belconnen. A bus turning left off Cohen Street onto Lathlain Street failed to give way to a lady pushing a pram (and my wife who was just behind), nearly collecting the pram. Then had the hide to give the dickhead gesture to the lady and my wife. This despite them having a green.

Also related, but the other day I was doing an advance driver training course and I was surprised (having held my licence for 24 years now) that when turning left or right into a street without traffic lights, or a roundabout that one must give way to all pedestrians crossing or INTENDING to cross the road you are turning into. In all my 24 years of driving have I ever once seen a pedestrian game to do this or a vehicle who knows they have to give way. One such example is rule 67 (4). Same too giving way to crossing pedestrians when entering/leaving a driveway, though this rule I did know.

Buzz Killington

As a pedestrian, I wouldn't be game to assert my rights under that rule. No point being correct if you're seriously injured.

So if I am riding a bicycle on the footpath, cars exiting side streets (without traffic lights) and driveways should give way to me?

If your on a bike then you are a rider, not a pedestrian. But would think the same would apply. Too tired to check now.

Cyclists are required to dismount at all intersections if they are using the footpath and want the same rights as pedestrians.

Half right, rule 248 says "The rider of a bicycle must not ride across a road, or part of a road, on a children's crossing or pedestrian crossing", where I say half right is in relation to the foot path, because rule 250 says "The rider of a bicycle who is 12 years old or older must not ride on a footpath if another law of this jurisdiction prohibits the rider from riding on the footpath."

So for the most part riders should not be on a foot path. The exceptions is where the path is shared or the rider is 12 or under.

I was talking in reference to the enforcement of right of way at an intersection. As stated above cyclist must not ride across a road or part there of, to enforce the right of way they must dismount and walk across the road.

No worries, but you last comment about enforcing right of way, yet another thing I learnt was that even though there are rules about giveing way, no one technically has right of way. There is even a paragraph stating so.

Obligation to give way
There are a number of rules requiring a driver to give way to another driver or a pedestrian. However, under the Rules the other driver or pedestrian does not have a 'right' of way. Indeed, in some situations, a
number of drivers may be required to give way to each other, eg at an intersection with a stop sign or give way sign on more than 1 of the intersecting roads. Similarly, although a driver may be required to
give way to a pedestrian, the pedestrian is required under rule 236 (1) not to cause a traffic hazard by moving into the driver's path.

OK, let me give an example:

I'm riding along the footpath on Soward Way alongside Homeworld between Anketell Street and Scollay Street.  As I cross the enterance/exit to the Homeworld carpark, do cars entering or exiting the carpark have to give way to me?

ajw373

Very greay this area. Firstly is a carpark enterance consiered to be a driveway or a road?

Secondly you shouldn't be riding on the foot path if your over 12 and if you are over 12 and the carpark enterance is considered a road then you should be walking across the road in which case you become a pedestrian.

If a pedestrian and the car park is a road then cars turning INTO the carpark should be stopping for you as they are turning in, but cars exiting wouldn't have to as you are crossing their path.

If the carpark enterance is a driveway, then still if your over 12 you shouldn't be ridding on the path, but in any case all cars crossing the "footpath" should be giving way to pedestrians crossing.

But that said look at some of the posts above, the whole thing about giving way is for the most part very very very grey. I mean to say the rules about who should give way a clear, but technically no one has the right to force right of way, especially it seems pedestrians.

When I did the course the other week an ex AFP copper was running the discussion about road rules and he mentioned the reason why there is no concept of right of way (as opposed to giving way) is to do with culpability in an accident. Apparently in all accidents boths sides are partialy culpable, the only thing that changes is the percentage of culpability. If there was a concept of right of way then it would be hard to judge culpability.

As stated in the links below, anyone can legally ride on the footpath in the ACT.  This is why I ask if the same principles apply to cyclists as pedestrians when using footpaths.

Cyclists still have to dismount to cross a road, so the riding on footpath bit is mostly moot anyway. So the question is is the enterance to the carpark a road (where you must dismount) or a driveway where you don't have to. Also as mentioned a few times would you be silly enough to take on a vehicle who may not know the rules properly?

My understanding is that any users of the footpath (pedestrian or cyclist) would have right of way over vehicles leaving the carpark

Toyota Camry

Yesterday afternoon, I was driving along Benjamin Way; that is a road located in the suburb of Belconnen. I was going at the speed limit of 40km/hr, when another vehicle decided to turn left out of the Westfield car park at this location; whilst my car was only 7 metres away.

https://www.google.com/maps/@-35.237238,149.0673372,3a,75.9y,319.71h,81.73t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sN4V1KGa730sAmaDdNrK9Kg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

It was the slow speed that saved myself from having an accident; I am also lucky that my car was serviced recently at Canberra Toyota so it has very good brakes. It is my high recommendation that before turning left you should look to see if vehicles are approaching; Canberra is a smaller city, but there is still a likelyhood that another car will be coming.
