General Discussion / Re: MyWay+ implementation
Last post by L94UBbusfan - Yesterday at 06:58:45 PM
While I was on my travels today I saw 303 and noticed that it had the MyWay+ system equipped, and was showing up on the MyWay+ app. All the other Irisbuses I saw today didn't have it, including 313 which I rode later in the day. Is there now an intention to fit the Irisbuses since they are set to stay a little bit longer than previously expected?

Got 16 buses in 1 day  :o

579 (19)
724 (R8)
688 (R4)
327 (54) - waited 45 minutes for an L94 to turn up, and it happened to be one I was looking for  ;D
350 (54)
471 (R5)
353 (77)
387 (77)
366 (R5)
351 (R5) - saw 862 being driven inside Woden Depot. Only arrived yesterday.
475 (R5)
731 (R3)
534 (R4)
677 (R8)
389 (24)
313 (19)

Rode heaps of CNGs today, knowing they will all be gone before the end of the year I tried to ride as many as possible, and I'm very happy with how I went. All buses in bold I expect to be withdrawn at the end of the week, really glad I was able to ride some of these buses for the final time before they are gone.

Yes they've been around for decades. My old 313 to work used to have another service scheduled 3 minutes ahead, the first one was a complete crush load and the second one was only half full. From memory this only operated during the school term as the additional passengers were school students so it was not required outside of school days.

Quote from: Northside on April 22, 2025, 08:28:47 PMDoes anyone know if double divisions have been used prevously on the network?

Yes, in the "current" network there were 2 double divisions 26 runs, with the earlier service starting at either GCS or JPC and the other service starting in Gungahlin. However this double division no longer exists with the new network. Looking through my bus timetables, I found that double divisions were quite common in Networks 14 and 15, where the regular route and its Xpresso route ran just minutes apart. It's always interesting to find the little quirks in a new timetable, and this new timetable has a few that I've found so far.

Re: double divisions. Yes - as an example, up until the end of term, there were two short R10 trips in the morning peak. One started from John Gorton at Fred Daly at 7:44am, and the other from Denman Prospect Shops at 8:27am. Each were only 2 minutes before a full trip. The John Gorton one started in January 2024 and I think the DP one started a bit later. In practice, sometimes they did not operate before the full trip went through, meaning the crush load they were designed to avoid still happened on the first bus, and the extras ran basically empty. These trips only appeared on the TC HTML timetable and in the trip planner / GTFS / apps, and were not formalised on to the TC PDF timetable or bus stop posters.

The R10 has been adjusted from Term 2, with the additional trips better formalised, running school days only (as they have always done) but providing a more consistent/averaged frequency.

As a frequent user of Route 66, I agree with your points. I'm unsure how successful the additional trips will be unless the short trips definitely run ahead of the full ones. Of note is that they aren't marked as School Days Only unlike the other extra R2, R4 and R10 peak trips added from Term 2.

Funnily enough, most of my travel on the 66 happens to be at the Cooleman end - and correct, it's never busy. I'm often the only one on the bus, and I use it at random times across the week.

An interesting quirk added to the 66 timetable in the mornings. There will now be 'double division' runs starting from Coombs, leaving a minute before the existing 30 minute frequency. It seems a missed opportunity to just have a 15 minute frequency between Coombs and Woden. Does anyone know if double divisions have been used prevously on the network?

Still no additional buses for the even peak despite often crush loads sandwiched in. Pre-covid this route had 5-15 minute frequencies and I know we aren't back to those levels, but surely we'd see some improvement. The whole route needs an overhaul as the route has good loads between Denman and Woden but virtually empty to Cooleman due to the lack of connectivity at that end.

Quote from: L94UBbusfan on April 18, 2025, 01:35:29 PMI saw somewhere on the fleetwiki that 38 Bustechs will be transferred to Woden,
Which is odd, since that information is not on the wiki (yet). There has been movement of Belconnen Bustechs to Woden, and there will also need to be some Tuggeranong diesels sent there but the final composition of Woden Depot won't be known until next weekend.

As to whether Woden buses will operate all over the network: it will depend on what is the most efficient use of the buses. It is likely that most Woden shifts will start and finish closer to Woden than anywhere else, but there might be restrictions on operating in Gungahlin (for instance). Again: we'll just have to see what shows up at Gungahlin after the 28th of April.

Looks like some Bustechs will join the Yutongs at Woden Depot. I saw somewhere on the fleetwiki that 38 Bustechs will be transferred to Woden, I'm presuming these buses are from the 40 bus order back in 2020 (minus 693 and 697 of course). So far 816-824, 827-828, and 831 onwards are at Woden, while 800-815, 825-826 and 829-830 haven't moved yet. Depending on how many Yutong's and Bustechs transfer before the 28th, there should be somewhere between 60-100 buses at Woden on day 1.

Also, this might be a stupid question, but will buses from Woden operate all over the network (just like Belconnen and Tuggeranong buses do) or is it likely that with Woden opening, buses will operate closer to their depot?

Quote from: Barry Drive on April 17, 2025, 04:46:34 PMMinister Steel has mentioned that all CNG buses will be withdrawn this year.

Really need to ride some more gas buses then  :o

I didn't think all the gas buses would be gone so soon, but thinking about it, it makes sense to withdraw all CNG buses and remove the need for CNG refueling facilities, in which that space could be used to expand charging facilities at Tuggeranong. Also, could CNGs be used as training buses in the short term, or is it better to just keep the Renaults as trainers until the Irisbuses are withdrawn?

Good to know the Irisbuses will still be around for a bit longer though.
