Title: NSW border closure
Post by: Toyota Camry on December 29, 2020, 02:03:52 PM
The border is presently closed between the ACT and Greater Sydney; with the escalating COVID-19 situation in New South Wales, now that the outbreak has spread to Wollongong it is time to close the border on all of NSW to enter the ACT. The risk is simply too high when towns like Queanbeyan and Jerrabomberra still have unrestricted travellers entering from Sydney and Wollongong; yet these towns are not under stay at home orders and/or mask mandates.

Residents of Queanbeyan, Jerrabomberra & Yass who hold employment in Canberra where it can be proven that their job cannot be worked remotely, and that the employer cannot find another person to replace their duties until there is a vaccine; shall be given permits allowing them to enter the ACT for the purpose of employment. These people will be required to wear a face mask at all times within the ACT, and will not be permitted to visit any other locations in the ACT other than their place of employment.

For all returning ACT residents from any area of New South Wales, hotel quarantine shall be made available at a cost to the individual; non-ACT residents will only be permitted to enter hotel quarantine if there are extreme circumstances for them to need to enter Canberra.

The Wollongong case was already in isolation & there's no evidence that this has spread around Wollongong. Most cases are in & around the Northern Beaches. A region made fun of for residents never leaving. Bit like Fathers Day & Penrith...

The ACT on the other hand has a growing gastro & RSV outbreak. There's potential for ACT residents to spread this down the South Coast & the rest of Australia (except for Greater Sydney [emoji6]).

NSW Health are nothing like Victorian Health or even ACT Health.

But as non-Social media experts have pointed out. The ACT has tigher restrictions now than when the disease was rampant.

Victoria is implementing a hard border closure with New South Wales from 11:59pm on January 1st; the time for the ACT to do the same is at exactly the same time, including with Queanbeyan. There needs to be a 'border bubble' established for Queanbeyan and Jerrabomberra residents to visit Fyshwick & Hume; other areas of the ACT would not be accessible to any residents of NSW aside from as described in my first post.

Totally impracticable.
