Title: 2009-2010 Fire Season Has Now Begun
Post by: Bus 400 on October 01, 2009, 11:16:52 AM
Over the coming months there will be new publications coming relating to the stay or go policy & the Fire Danger Rating (FDR). The current FDR magnets that people may or may not have on their fridges are now invalid as a new section has been added-catastrophic. On these days it is planned that everyone is the pack & leave.
Hopefully we do not have any serious incidents in the ACT for years to come, but if there is I'll do my best to keep everyone updated through ACT Bus & ATDB.

The smoke that is currently hanging around the ACT is from a burn off that has been conducted by the ACT Parks Brigade & the NSW Rural Fire Service.

The burn off was conducted on the otherside of the Brindabella's near Brindabella Road & should continue throughout tomorrow

As per usual the ACT Emergency Services Agency will help with any further updates (http://www.esa.act.gov.au/ESAWebsite/content_esa/home_page/esa_home_page.html (http://www.esa.act.gov.au/ESAWebsite/content_esa/home_page/esa_home_page.html))

These 2 pictures were taken from Weston Creek Terminus.

A massive burn off has now begun in the southern reaches of Namadgi National Park involving ACT Parks, ACT Rural Fire Service & NSW Rural Fire service. The burn off is (planned) to be 3300 to 6000ha in size & smoke is anticipated to be visible in the Tuggeranong Valley over the next week.

A bit more information has been released on the TAMS website & can be found at http://www.tams.act.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0003/186411/MR117_0310_Controlled_burns_in_Namadgi.pdf (http://www.tams.act.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0003/186411/MR117_0310_Controlled_burns_in_Namadgi.pdf)
