Title: Former Belconnen Interchange School Platforms?
Post by: Buzz Killington on May 05, 2009, 06:38:03 PM
Does anybody have any more details on the former School Services platforms? It was the first I'd heard of it.

The layover at the bottom of Belconnen Interchange served as school run platforms for a time. This is why there is a fence and gate arrangement down there - each gate was a school service platform.

For students who lived outside the school's local area, there would be a school run to the interchange and then the students could catch a dedicated school service home instead of using a regular route service. (There would also be direct school routes to the suburbs near the school.) I don't know when this arrangement stopped.

This was also the arrangement at the old Woden Interchange (pre-1982). The layover at Woden was at the bottom of the interchange (where platforms 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 are now). There was a fence with gates, just like at Belconnen. Once Woden was redeveloped, school runs would drop off and pick up from the normal platforms.
