Post by: Bus 400 on July 02, 2011, 09:57:23 PM

Following on from this thread (http://actbus.net/forum/index.php?topic=3142.msg29367;topicseen#msg29367).

Just down from the Gundagai Railway Station is the Prince Alfred Bridge & Railway Viaduct.
These two signs are near the bridges & provide a background:

Here is one of the reasons cars no longer use this bridge:

Very interesting thanks mate. Used the wobbly old road bridge many times and also the railway bridge on frequent 'Tin Hare' trips to Tumut  on the regular passengers services which used to connect 4 times daily (most days) with the 'South Mail' and 'Riverina Express" (and occasionally to Batlow - by special train).

NSW govt should be shot for ever allowing the railways to get into the state they are in now. Driving a train along these branch lines would have been one of the most interesting and senic jobs around.

Great sets of photos over the last few days, Bus 400, and always nice to see some rail photos on the forum. It's a sad state that many of these old facilities are in but at least we can still see these reminders of how things used to be.
