Title: Adelaide Mercedes ACTION
Post by: Buzz Killington on March 11, 2012, 02:44:52 PM
A couple of shots I dug up recently - Mercedes O.305 Bus 589 on loan to STA Adelaide for evaluation in early 1982.  It is seen at Adelaide Railway Square

Bus 589 entered service 30 years ago this Tuesday - 13 March 1982!

Those 2 members who grew up in Adelaide might be able to help me here.

But am I right in thinking these photographs were taken at the entrance which is at the other end of the main concourse to the Casino?

These shots were taken at the northern end of the railway station (ie the side facing the River Torrens), which is not seen by casino patrons or by most rail travellers. Of course, in 1982, the casino did not exist; the bulk of the building was still used as a railway station.

In those days, the northern portion of the building housed functions such as
- baggage check in and collection offices
- parcels depot
- Railways refreshment stores
- Railways laundry
- Administrative functions.
