Title: Bus Trailers
Post by: route56 on March 15, 2013, 05:59:37 PM
I saw this photo on the web of a trailer bus in Switzerland. It was discussed at the ACT Transit/AATTC meeting on Thursday night. Les Pascoe sent me another photo - although Im not sure what city its from (looks German).

Do these meet ADR's ? Would they fit around our roundabouts?

Not sure if they meet ADR but they are certainly a great idea for increasing peak period capacity. It appears that there is a steering linkage under the front axle of the trailer and i dare say that the swept path of the trailer would be near identical to the bus it is being towed by. This idea should be explored further in Australia. Would be much cheaper to purchase than artics.

I rode in one in Zug in Switzerland a few years ago. The Swiss are very well behaved though, in Australia I don't think anyone would bother paying as there is no driver control of boarding.

I rarely pay on Melbourne trams or various metros in Europe.
