Title: Molonglo Bus Network
Post by: Bus 400 on November 20, 2025, 10:10:53 PM
Under a random FOI search, more on that later, I found a FOI release on the planned roll out of the Molonglo Valley bus network. Good to look at in 10-20 years time.

Of interest is the proposed R11 from the City to Molonglo TC via Parkes Way & Sulman. Whilst the plan is to keep the R10. The other rapid is the R12 from Belconnen to Woden via Molonglo. This next part is in the report, eventually combining the R12 & R4 to provide a Belconnen to Terminus Rapid IF light rail Stage 2B is complete.

Regular route wise, sees the introduction of the 67 & potentially the 48.

Of interest is what is required operationally. Increased services greatly increases amount of buses required. Spilting the 66 & 67 & introducing the 47 & 48 requires additional layover space in Molonglo.

Pretty interesting to look at even now, there are some good proposals in there especially the R12 combining with the R4 after light rail stage 2 is complete.

I wonder how soon that 67 service will be introduced, the North Denman section of the route has bus stop bays already and last time I went past there there were a fair few houses up already, although I think the main road the bus is expected to run on isn't fully opened yet (although I could be wrong).

Does anyone know if there is enough demand to warrant a direct service from Denman Prospect to Cooleman Court and Woden, or would it be better off to reroute the 67 through Wright or Coombs? I know with the network update earlier this year there were 2 extra 66 services starting in Coombs heading to Woden added. Can someone who actively rides the 66 or lives in the Molonglo region elaborate on where bus capacity is needed?

There's been numerous reports of the R10 being beyond capacity in direction of peak (I'll keep my lips sealed on that).

So I wonder if those in the know catch the 66 & transfer to a R7 on Streeton Drive or Cooleman Court?

As of yesterday (22/11/25), Stella Young Way (North Denman Prospect Loop) is complete with DDA compliant bus stop pads. The link road (Yami Lester Way) is not even in the land clearing stage opposite Denman Prospect shops.

It will be funny when  the 67 joins the Woden to Cooleman Court via Hindmarsh Drive route. With 5 routes running at 30 minutes frequency each. Hindmarsh Drive will receive an even higher frequency than most Rapids.

During the Gas Bus Farewell Tour yesterday we drove down Stella Young Way which seems ready for buses with several houses popping up recently and the 67 bus route was already programmed into the bus destination boards, although this may have just been for the tour. The 67 route could definitely be introduced next network update, just without the Yami Lester Way section for the time being (which would mean it would have to double back on Denman Prospect Shops like the 80 does with Lanyon Marketplace). Although the introduction of the 67 all depends on demand and bus availability.

All destos from the Gas Bus tour yesterday were programmed in specifically for the day. The Denman Prospect photo stop destos were not based off any official plans or whatnot - they were purely a case of "what if?"
