As you've probably already read, 991 broke down today.
Here are some shots of the "excitement". The bus was fine from 1st gear to 3rd gear, but when it got into 4th gear, the acceleration cut in and out, resulting in the bus "jerking" back and forth at about 60km/h. On Barry Dr, the driver put his hazard lights on, and didn't accelerate down the hill at all. After the Macarthur Av turnoff, the driver turned the bus off and on in an attempt to quell the rough acceleration, with no avail. He eventually gave up at the ANU stop.....
To see such a good bus take a dramatic dive is somewhat dissapointing.

In the dark, 991 sits at the bottom of the hill, with it's passengers to the left, waiting for the next bus.

A concerned bus driver stops to check if all is ok.

Later, he moved up onto the grass.

A view of it from across the road.
Here's a crappy YouTube video of 991, listen and watch closely, you'll see the bus "jerking", accelerating, then not accelerating. At first, I thought it was the driver doing it!

Lastly, something unrelated;

Dusk in City.
good shots john
Aah now i see how lame a break down is compared to other things that happen. Probably had a dodgy conversion job done to it, they should've kept it a gassie!
Oh those poor passengers, waiting for another peak hour intertown would be such a long 3 minute wait! and im sure the 'concerned' other driver just said
"Hey mate, d'ya brake down?"
"Yeah"
"Yeah, those old girls always playin' up they are, i just stick with the ol' macks me self"
"Technically they aren't macks"
"Anyway, smack the kangaroo down sport im off to do a thirty ate"
"riiight"
John: "wow"
Ha ha, yeah, that just aout sums it up :P
Good to see 991 has become like its older brothers & not working.
omg i was on 991 last tuesday on the 56 from mitchell to civic and it sounded ok
omg!!
:(
Those sort of problems with the 3s are probably caused by bugs in the engine management software. The last time it happened to me was years ago and it wouldn't do more than about 10km/h. Not great on Marcus Clarke St at peak hour. Turning the engine off is to reboot the computer.
