Not a lot in the article. More about the 180 services cut, 30 new buses coming soon, 4th bus depot planning & the promised Lanyon, Molonglo, Ginninderry Rapids before October 2028.

Routes and Timetables / Re: Network update from Monday...
Last post by Bus 503 - February 18, 2026, 09:19:43 PM
Something I've been wondering is when, if ever, TC plan to resume pre-Covid peak frequencies on local routes. Looking back at my old Network 14 timetable book, many local routes used to run every 15-20 minutes during the morning and evening peak, with hourly frequencies in the middle of the day. This contrasts with the current, post-Covid practice of half-hourly local services the whole day with little to no added frequency during the peak.

Perhaps the pre-Covid frequencies will never return. For example, one could argue the trade-off for half-hourly services during the daytime means there is no capacity to "surge" local route frequencies during the morning and afternoon peak. Furthermore, the addition of multiple Rapids beyond the old Red and Blue rapids since Network 2019 also may also mean there is less capacity for this.

Hopefully we will see a return to pre-Covid peak frequencies in local routes after the Commonwealth Bridge strengthening is finished, but the situation of half-hourly local routes during the peak preceded the bridge works and has persisted on my count for at least the last four to five years. Given that, perhaps we need to accept those old local frequencies are a relic of the past.

General Discussion / Fare enforcement
Last post by L94UBbusfan - February 18, 2026, 07:57:57 PM
One thing I've noticed recently (especially since the new timetable started) that TC seem to be really cracking down on fare evading and ramping up the amount of transit enforcement officers. While personally I'm yet to see any fines handed out, there were a lot of transit enforcement officers when I was at Westfield Belconnen on Monday. I overheard a conversation of people saying that they are really starting to hit down on fare evading and threatening fines. Is this just a random "scare" tactic or are they actually (finally) starting to properly enforce and crack down on fares everywhere?

EDIT: Ok, I've found a Canberra Times article about this crackdown, but it's paywalled. Any additional information about this situation would be greatly appreciated.

Last Monday (9/2/26)
698 (31)
851 (24)
518 (R6) - saw 808 with "R6 City ANU" still on the desto, guess someone forgot to change it
503 (R8)
553 (26) - Same service I caught last week, while the bus was standing room only from Gungahlin Place to when I got off, it was nowhere near as packed as last week. They seem to have fixed the issue with the whole bus load of students boarding at JPC when the bus was already full as only 2 people boarded at the JPC stop this time.

Last Wednesday (11/2/26)
391 (30) - second oldest bus in the operational fleet. This service did a second loop through Giralang (presumably due to running early) which caught me off guard. Also no traffic issues at Radford anymore  ;D
714 (30)

Friday (13/2/26)
409 (23)

Sunday (15/2/26) - my first Sunday trip since heck, 2019 at least, if not longer
712 (25)
011 (R1)
802 (R4)
685 (R4) - took diversion via Parkes Way, Edinburugh Ave, Vernon Circle and Consistution Ave before rejoining the route on London Circuit

Monday (16/2/26)
710 (23) - saw an R3 with Spence on the desto, geez that would be confusing to some people if they didn't know of the changes. I've seen several R5/6 services with City ANU on the desto as well (as mentioned last week), not sure if the buses haven't been updated yet with the new desto files or drivers are selecting the wrong destination by accident.
488 (R4) - my favourite STAG  ;D
471 (R4)
466 (R4)
519 (R5)
865 (R8)
713 (26)

Today (18/2/26)
450 (23)
583 (30)

Fleet / Re: Bus Discussion (2019-)

Quote from: Bus 400 on February 17, 2026, 03:17:24 PMOut of curiosity, has anyone seen any buses with new bus driver protection screens?

Contracts were signed last year, but I don't think I've missed any thing on these being on the road.
All of the Diesel CB60 EVO IIs (18.320/18.310 Diesels/Steer-Tags) have been fitted with a larger assault screen. In addtion to that buses 598 & 611 have also been fitted with a larger screen but from what I heard they where only trials until they got approved which at this point don't think they have.

Yeah I noticed there's a handful of buses off the road at the moment, most of them are Tuggeranong buses too, tuggers is already down on buses without the CNGs so I wonder how they're handling it as I've seen more Tuggeranong runs this network than I did last timetable. Perhaps some of the CNGs will have to be used if they keep losing buses to incidents.

Also while we're briefly on the topic of CNGs, has anyone seen any operating or know of any operating?

I've been going through the fleet wiki a bunch lately, I had no idea there were so many buses off the road because of crashes and stuff. Guess the new network doesn't have as much of a demand for the fleet like the last few if the CNGs we've still got are being kept around as spares.
A fellow chorister mentioned they passed a bus that got rear-ended turning into Canberra Hospital last night so there goes another one...
