Honestly, I've also had issues with MyWay+ as well, like this morning when I tried to tap on it kept saying "not accepted" even though the day before it worked and after catching thatbus, I directly caught another bus within the next 10 minutes and it worked fine

And then next thing you know this shows up, it's gotten real bad with NEC

When that error occurs I'm pretty sure only the QR reader works - everything on the front reader is ignored.
I find it hilarious that the one thing it's mostly designed to do it all of a sudden doesn't want to do.
Quote from: SylvanHmm yep, that was totally worth $60 million

I read somewhere that the whole thing was $66mil, please let me know if this is wrong.

Hadn't thought that mobile phone reads might be part of 'card transactions not allowed'. Bit of a stretch to include a mobile phone as a 'card'. On the other hand when not using the QR, the mobile function replicates a transaction card.

CBRFlyer

Can confirm if the "Card Transactions not Allowed" error shows then the only transactions the reader will accept is QR

Narrator: they weren't

So we went a whole year with CNG buses not being fitted either because they were 'being decomissioned'. It literally took the whole year for the majority of that fleet to go yet there was enormous fuss throughout because of it. Why couldn't they just put the bloody things into them and get the f on with it... I mean seriously these people just don't think long term do they.

But if they installed the equipment, that's quite a few wasted hours that would have been spent better by fixing the equipment they have.

but it still hasn't been fixed though. A few wasted hours is better than drivers getting shit from angry passengers

I understood why MyWay+ wasn't fitted the Irisbuses and L94s because there were a fair few of them and they were approaching 20+ years old and due for retirement within a year of the system being installed, but I really don't get why the MAN CNGs weren't fitted as there are less of them and they are much newer. The original plan was to withdraw all CNG buses by the end of 2025, but then they chose to get rid of the Irises instead. If only they chose a plan and stuck with it maybe the whole fleet would have MyWay+ readers by now. And who knows what's going on with the Elements, they really should have gotten MyWay+ when they re-entered service.

On a more positive note though regarding MyWay+, out of my 21 bus trips on buses with MyWay+ this year I've only experienced 1 broken reader and 2 PIDs out of order. I did see some other buses with broken readers but much less than I was seeing 2-3 months ago. I've also not experienced "Card transactions not allowed" or a reader working at one stop but not the other since late November last year, which isn't too bad.

Except for passengers unable to tap off and might worry about penalty fares, why are passengers angry at getting a free ride?
For that matter, are penalty fares being enforced at present? I would have thought not, except perhaps for Light Rail.

If someone's getting upset over not having to pay, they need to put that $2 towards a therapist or an e-scooter hire.

There are currently no penalty fares.
