- Until January 1979, the service operated off-peak on weekdays only.
- It originally operated to/from Lathlain St in Belconnen until Belconnen Interchange opened in January 1979.
- The route was extended to Melba in April 1981.
- From October 1981, the route operated to and from Giralang, with Spence, Melba, Evatt, and McKellar no longer being ser
- From October 1981 to July 1988, evening services were provided by Area Service Route 490 (1981).
- From December 1983, the service operated to and from a temporary terminus at Giralang Primary while the permanent terminus was constructed behind the intersection of William Slim Dr and Chuculba Cres.
- From September 1985 to March 1987, the route did not operate after noon on Saturdays or on Sundays, with Route 466 (1985) operating in those periods.
- It was supplemented by Route 401 (1988) from July 1998 to June 1992.
- In May 1996, the route was modified to operate as a loop from Belconnen Interchange.
