- It initially operated as an interim service for Fraser East and Charnwood.
- It initially operated to/from Lathlain St, until Belconnen Interchange opened in January 1979, and the route was extended to seven day operation.
- From October 1981, it operated Monday to Saturday (lunchtime) only, with area service Route 492 (1981) providing evening services, and Route 462 (1981) providing Saturday afternoon, and Sunday services.
- From July 1988, weekend services were provided by Route 467 (1988)
- The route was modified in July 1988 to operate via Flynn and Florey, replacing Route 416 (1981)
