- It was first introduced as an interim service for Spence
- The route was extended to Belconnen Interchange in January 1979
- From October 1981 to July 1988, it operated Monday to Friday, and Saturday mornings only. Evening services were provided by Route 491 (1981), and Route 493 (1981). Saturday afternoon and Sunday services were provided by Route 460 (1981), and Route 461 (1981).
- The route was modified in October 1981 to operate via Coulter Dr, Southern Cross Dr, and Kingsford Smith Dr.
- The route was modified in June 1982 to operate via Copland Dr, Owen Dixon Dr, William Webb Dr, and Clancy St.
- The route was redesigned in July 1988, no longer servicing Melba.
