Not if you don't want to catch a bus for the next few weeks. Have a read of this. Basically you will need attend a MyWay centre to get a student card. It says allow up to 10 working days - although I don't know if this also applies to applications made in person. Only one way to find out.

From what I was told by the people handing out MyWay pamphlets at Westfield on Thursday they can change it over straight away at Canberra Connect and MyWay centres, it is all on the one card (as I assume you know) and all they have to do is change the way it takes off fares. Also even if I would have to pay adult fares I would, for a few days anyway...

Today:
927 (905) and since the monthly expires tonight I can safely say (unless I get 490 tomorrow on my way to get a MyWay Card) this is the very last time I will use a magnetic card on an ACTION Bus.

134 (737) it appears this bus didn't register I I tagged on (although it beeped) and when I tagged off it must have tagged me on because I got charged an extra fare on the next bus for not tagging off...
