Sir Pompously

Here are some photos from Tuesday 18th Feb of diversions due to the closure of City Bus Station as well as photos of Alinga Street and Northbourne Ave being used as a temporary interchange. As I am sure we are all well aware now, this is all due to a fire from a restaurant in the Sydney Building on Monday 17th Feb, resulting in all platforms being closed and all services diverted for public safety. It is not known at this stage when the bus station is likely to re-open.

BUS-413 is seen passing by directional signage to guide customers to the temporary interchange

BUS-407 (a MAN 18.320 with Custom CB60 EvoII Body) and BUS-960 (a Renault/MACK PR100.2 with Ansair body) are both seen on London Cct (West)

BUS-482 (a Scania K320UB 6x2 with Custom CB60 EvoII body) is seen on London Cct (West) bound for Gungahlin on a route 200 Red Rapid Service

A view of the temporary interchange located on Alinga Street

BUS-300 is seen at the Melbourne Building along with a crowd of passengers waiting for their rapid or xpresso service at Platform 11

A view of Platform 10 being used for all southbound Blue Rapid, Red Rapid and Xpresso Services

A view of Platform 1 at City Bus Interchange, with temporary fencing blocking off 1/3 of the interchange and half of the Sydney Building

A view of a closure sign and empty interchange at City Bus Station. A transport officer can be seen offering directions to passengers

BUS-413 (a MAN 18.320 with Custom CB60 EvoII Body) is seen at Platform 11 on a "Blue Rapid" service due to the closure of the City Bus Station

While I understand it can get congested during peak, during off-peak the temp station works reasonably well. It's also making better use of City West as a layover point.

Hopefully the planners are keeping an eye on this arrangement - once (if) the two new City-area layovers get built, all services commencing/terminating in the City should be run to/from one of the layovers. For instance, all south-bound services can start from Watson St, and service Rimmer St & Alinga St. North-bound services can commence from Allara St and service London Cct.

A free shuttle commenced operation today:

A temporary, free shuttle bus service is now available for passengers requiring extra assistance with transport around the City and to temporary bus stops. This service will only be in place whilst the City Bus Station is closed.

Two wheelchair accessible shuttle buses will operate a continuous loop service between 8am and 6pm each day. They will take passengers from agreed bus stops and locations in the City to Alinga Street where the majority of City Bus Station services are currently operating from due to the station's closure after the Sydney Building fire.

The loop will drop off and pick up from the following locations, please see map for the bus stops:

    Alinga Street
    Platform 10, Northbourne Avenue
    London Circuit
    Akuna Street
    Canberra Centre
    Back to Alinga Street

I spotted Bus 149 operating the route with 'Shuttle Bus' on the desto. There was nobody on it.
