With the recent demise of the Retired ACT Transport Employees Club, a large void has been left in Canberra's transport preservation needs. Over the recent months, a group of transport enthusiasts in Canberra has worked hard to get a new transport preservation organisation up and running.

The objects of Canberra Transport Museum Inc are;
A) To encourage and preserve by means of restoration, maintenance, operation and display, examples of Canberra’s heritage and historic transport vehicles and associated memorabilia.

B) To foster interest in Canberra's transport heritage, its vehicles, technology and environment in which they operated.

C) To ensure a secure future for all preserved items of significance and to make them available for the public to enjoy.

Over the coming months we have lots of exciting things happening with the museum. Memberships will soon be opening up and we encourage anyone who is interested to join and get involved with the museum.

This account is not monitored, and will be used for announcements only, for museum contact please use email;

What is the luncheon club?

I am waiting to see if there is announcement yet as to if the new Canberra Transport Museum will be taking over the remaining assets and depot of ARHS ACT or not; if so, it is strongly advised that the Canberra Transport Museum should stick to being a heritage operator, rather than trying to compete with operators such as Pacific National, QUBE and SCT.

I have provided a link below that is enlightening reading for the management of the Canberra Transport Museum; it will help guide them through learning of experience in how to run a successful operation.

Canberra Transport Musuem (CTM) is a separate entity to the Canberra Rail Musuem (CRM), which is the replaced ARHS ACT.

NOTICE OF AGM
The Canberra Transport Museum will be holding its Annual General Meeting on Sunday September 18 2022 at 16:00.

The meeting will be held at Yass Railway Museum, 3 Cargo st, Yass.

In recognition of the distance from Canberra we will be arranging a bus from Woden Interchange, departing platform one at 13:00, allowing for a brief tour on the bus which will likely be an "interesting" member from a local operators fleet (details to come). This departure time should also allow attendees a short time to look around the Yass Railway Museum (standard entry fees may apply). Return to Woden will be by 19:30 allowing plenty of time to get public transport from Woden, this time is an estimate but we have deliberately overestimated the time so we do not expect to be any later than this.

As we haven't formally started taking memberships we invite all interested parties to attend, we will be making museum memberships available on the day, details are yet to be locked in for this, payment can be made on the day by cash or EFT.

For those who cannot attend in person, virtual attendance via zoom will be made available with details posted closer to the date.

CTM

We are happy to announce we are now taking early membership applications.

Please note that we will start taking payments from our AGM In September, however for now you may sign up although your application won't be received until we receive payment either at our AGM or via a direct debit (details available next month).
As we continue to recover after covid and a few other setbacks we will be slow to get the museum and restorations back up to speed, as a result we are kicking off with a low annual membership of $20 per person. Whilst we are starting off with a small amount of benefits we hope to be able to add more as we have more to offer.

We are also hoping to announce another tour in the near future of which members will receive a discount. However in the meantime, you can know that your membership fees will go directly towards restoration or maintenance of our fleet which we hope to be able to get back out on the road soon.

You can sign up at the page below, we will be in touch after our AGM to start arranging payments.

Anymore information yet or we just going off what's already been posted here and on the CTM website?

Your timing is almost spot on, anyway...

A Qcity bus will depart Woden Platform 1 at 13:00, if those attending could please ensure they arrive at least 10 minutes early, Yass Railway museum will not be charging entry fees and light refreshments will be offered. Anyone planning to attend via road if you wish to look around you will need to wait for the bus to arrive, approximately 3pm will be the arrival

Is the bank account on the membership form still the current one (the form says it may change soon).  Don't want to put money into an old account....

A little disappointed the bus used is not one of the collection, but still. Safe to assume we'll have the same Qcity bus for the return trip?
