Northside

For those interested, I thought I'd share a new game I've been playing recently, Nimby Rails (available from Steam). It's a railway simulator that allows you to build a network over any geographical location in the world. There are also mods that allow you to create bus lines (although they operate like train lines in terms of signalling etc).

Naturally I wanted to simulate/build out the Canberra Network, so I did just that. I've now been able to simulate the entire Network 23 - both light rail and all bus routes. The schedules and frequencies are a bit off, as the demand for the services doesn't yet match real life (it uses real population data, but also assumes way more people catch public transport than actually do!) I've also simulated my own ideal network using the same resources as the real network, which was fun to do. I think I'll try and simulate the possible networks for after LR stage 2 is complete.

The game is cool, you can see the lines active in real-time, get stats on route popularity and profitability and obviously can come up with your own design for routes and schedules. It's definitely a time consuming app if you're into this kind of thing.

Here are some screenshots from the game showing the full network, my network and some close ups of the city interchange, showing the lines and the vehicles approaching the platforms.

For those who have access to the game, you can share games, so see below my shared games:

That's not realistic, where are the hundreds of tax-payer-dollar-wasting deadruns? Lol only joking. Looks cool, and vaguely similar to another game on steam that just came out called City Bus Manager (not as cheap though), but trains haha. You could play both and have a 2D and a 3D game of the Canberra networks ;D ;D
