Notes

1920s

  • The service commenced on 19 July 1926. There were several variants of the route, including short workings, running variously as Route 1, Route 002 (1928), Route 003 (1928) and Route 004 (1928).
  • The route was extended to Ainslie South (now Reid) on 16 August 1926.
  • The route was extended to Ainslie North (now Braddon and Ainslie) on 28 March 1927.
  • The route was extended to Ainslie Terminus (Corroboree Park) on 1 March 1928.
  • Routes 1-4 were rearranged from 26 April 1928.
  • Selected services extended to/from Molonglo or Westridge from August 1928
  • From 21 January 1929, Kingston-bound services were rerouted via Paterson St, Corroboree Park and Grimes St to Pialligo Ave (now Limestone Ave) to accommodate the departure location being moved alongside the waiting shed in Paterson St.
  • The route was modified on 29 November 1929 to operate via Northbourne Ave and Cooyong St

1930s

  • From February 1934, selected services combined with Route 002 (1928) (operating as 'Route 1&2'), traveling via Route 1 through Forrest, and National Cct between Melbourne Ave and Canberra Ave, in lieu of State Circle.
  • In May 1934, the Advisory Council recommended that the route operate via Flinders Way, Mugga Way, and Moresby Cres, however this did not proceed.
  • The route was extended to Cowper St in Ainslie in May 1937
  • Selected services operated to Yass Rd (Ainslie) during school terms from May 1939.

1940s

  • From May 1941, selected services operated via Farrer St in Braddon (instead of Reid), and the route was extended to Tyson St in Ainslie.
  • From July 1944, selected services operated via Cowper St and Ipima St in Braddon, instead of Reid. The route was also modified to operate via Liversidge St in Acton instead of Balmain Cres, and to operate via Paterson St on journeys via Reid, instead of Limestone Ave, or Ipima St (instead of Farrer St).
  • From 20 January 1947, selected services from Ainslie were modified to travel via Cooyong St and Northbourne Ave instead of Mort St and Alinga St for all services until 7pm to avoid congestion.
  • From March 1948, a new system of route numbering was introduced.
    • The route number indicated the route on the Kingston (southside) of the Molonglo River
    • The route taken over the river was indicated by A (Lennox Crossing) or B (Commonwealth Ave)
    • A second letter indicated the route taken on the Ainslie (northside) of the Molonglo River
  • The routes can be assembled via the table below. For example, Route 2BT would travel from the Railway Station via Causeway, Kingston, Forrest, Parkes, via Commonwealth Bridge to the City, then via Turner, Ipima St, Cowper St to Ainslie Terminus.
