Bus 398 wearing a moustache

They may look more suited to a 1970s porn star than a Canberra bus, but for the rest of November, ACTION buses will be fitted with large moustaches.

Large vinyl “mo’s” will adorn 20 buses as part of “Movember”, to help raise awareness of men’s health issues, including prostate cancer and depression.

The moustaches have been personally paid for by ACTION’s Senior Management Team. Bus driver Andy Young came up with the idea.

ACTION Business Manager Liz Clarke said “Given the demographic of our workforce, we thought it was a great opportunity to raise awareness and valuable funds for research into prostate cancer and depression in men”

Some of the fuzzy-faced buses will run on the new ACTION REDEX trial route from Gungahlin to Kingston Railway Station, which commences on 16 November (2009). The other moustached vehicles can be seen throughout the intertown network for the rest of the month.
