ACTION is putting the call out for new drivers, with a recruitment drive opening this Thursday, 14 November 2013.

“I am pleased to welcome ACTION’s seven new recruits who joined the team in October, and would like to invite other enthusiastic individuals to apply for a spot on the bus driver team, with part-time positions available at the Belconnen and Tuggeranong depots,” said Craig Basher, Operational Capability Manager, ACTION.

“ACTION’s seven new bus drivers have completed their training and each has operated several runs. All are enjoying their first couple of weeks on the job and, in particular, the opportunity to drive the different buses in ACTION’s fleet and interact with the Canberra community each day.

“In addition, they like knowing they are contributing to goals of reducing carbon emissions by providing public transport services.

“Before hitting the roads, the new drivers received four weeks of intensive training which involved modules on customer service, ticketing procedures, route navigation and bus familiarisation, before progressing to practical training components.

“When recruiting, ACTION look for people with a high level of health and fitness who possess strong customer service skills, have a full driver’s licence with a safe driving record, are over 20 years of age, and are available to work within a seven-day week including night shifts.

“I encourage anyone interested in helping provide Canberra with a safe, effective and accessible passenger transport service to come along to an upcoming bus driver information evening.

“The information session will be held at 7 pm on Wednesday, 13 November 2013, and will provide attendees with an overview of the positions, the bus driver recruitment process, training requirements and working conditions.”
