A new website has been launched, allowing users to create a personalised bus tour to explore Canberra’s history.

The History in ACTION website, historyinaction.info was launched in advance of next year’s 100 Year Centenary, and combines an interactive map of the ACT, with an overlay of current ACTION bus routes.

The website connects historical events and photographs to suburbs and bus routes, which users can select and discover what events occurred the selected location. Essentially, this allows users to create their own tours around Canberra, for the price of a bus fare.

The developer is also planning a mobile version of the site, tapping into phone GPS features to alert the user to nearby points of interest. Other upcoming features may include the ability for users to add their own geo-tagged photographs.

You can read more about the project at the GovHack website, and visit the History in ACTION site at http://historyinaction.info/
