The Featured Bus for February 2012 is Bus 251 – a Volvo B58-56 Coach

Bus 251 was a Volvo B58-56 which entered service in November 1974 and was withdrawn from service in 1990.

Unlike the other 75 Volvo B58s purchased by ACTION, 251 was built with a coach body, by Smithfield Bus & Coach Works, Sydney.

Bus 251 could be considered as ACTION Royalty, given that Charles and Diana – the (then) Prince and Princess of Wales – travelled on it during their visit to Canberra in 1985.

This vehicle’s primary purpose was for long-distance charter services, but it also operated sightseeing services and occasional regular route and school services.

It was fitted with a Kiki air-conditioning unit underneath the saloon floor powered by a separate Isuzu diesel motor.

Since leaving the ACTION Fleet it operated for Snowy Mountain Scheme Tours (Registration TV1372) and was later converted into a Mobile Home.
