The Featured Bus for January 2014 is ZIB-407 – a Toyota Coaster mini-bus

ZIB-407 was a Toyota Coaster RU19HB.

Together with its sister-unit ZIB-408, it was purchased in June 1975 with the intention of servicing developing suburbs in Tuggeranong and to provide a small bus option for charters.

Originally registered as ZIB-409, this vehicle was transferred to the Commonwealth Police in November 1976, but returned to ACTION in February 1977 and was re-registered as ZIB-407.

It was finally put to its intended use when the Tuggie Bus service commenced on 9 June 1980. The two routes (a clockwise loop and a counter-clockwise loop) ran during off-peak, commencing from Erindale Centre and operated through Kambah and Wanniassa. Unfortunately, the service failed to attract sufficient passengers and ceased operations on 3 July 1981.

ZIB-407 was withdrawn from the fleet on 24 July 1981.
