The ‘Koala CNG field trial’ bus, initially delivered to ACTION for a twelve month evaluation period, has had its trial run in the territory extended.

Joining the fleet in February 2010 as Bus 490, the Scania K230UB was built to ACTION specifications. The prototype vehicle enables Scania to gather ‘in-field’ research. Whilst data from the vehicle is sent direct to Scania in Sweden, feedback from drivers and mechanics has also formed results.

The vehicle’s engine is believed to be a pre-production trial and is being tested to determine design functionality and reliability.

Whilst enthusiasts observed that the bus was a frequent visitor to the workshops, this could be put down to evaluation and testing. ACT Bus was advised that the trial had been “Very positive”

A new end date for the trial has not been identified.
