Introduction

Network 1996 commenced in May of that year. Service changes included:

• Renumbering of some routes to provide a more logical set of route numbers in each region
• Revised weeknight and weekend services in several areas to provide more uniform service levels, similar to changes for Belconnen under Network 1994. These routes were numbered in the 160, 260, and 360 ranges (and 460 for Belconnen)
• Extended operating hours on Sundays - an extra 60 to 90 minutes on most routes.
• New loop-style services in North and South Canberra, and Tuggeranong, to provide greater cross-suburban travel opportunities.
• The introduction of weeknight and weekend services on Gungahlin routes
• Extra articulated buses on the Route 333 intertown express service, and additional southbound trips in the latter part of the evening peak period to increase capacity
• Additional services to the National Biological Standards Laboratory at Symonston - Route 239 (1996)
• An increased middle-of-day service frequency on Route 238 (1996), Route 500 (1993), and Route 901 (1992)
